dash swap!!! anybody had any experience with taking a whole dash out & reinstalling in diff car?We are taking apart my sons wrecked 95 z28 & found a 97 car with no motor or tranny.And no interior.No dash no steering wheel totally gutted.The idea is to take the dash,complete wiring harness,computer,steering wheel,pedals ect ect out if his 95 car & swap em into the 97 car.The motor & trans & interior didnt get hurt in the crash & this would be a way to get the car going again.Help!!!!

My first question would be are the harness and computer interchangible for those years. I know there are people on here who have taken their dashes apart for weight reasons and I have tried my hand at tinkering with the electronics under there a little for the stereo but that is about it.

going to need to run a 97 PCM and upgrade the Knock Sensor ,crank sensor ,Front cover and Balancer hub to pass Emissions.
Other then adding a few supporting wires in the engine bay and dash you should be good to go

You can just drop all the 95 stuff in. It will fit great and look factory. the problem is if you do not use the OBD-II stuff it will never pass a smog test

well i guess we dont live in a place that needs a smog test anyways but if I sell the car ill have to disclose that!!! Not sure wth to do! Another one of my mechanic buddys wants me to get an 60s 70s camaro or chevelle & drop that LT1 motor in it.

The Swap you are talking about is easy and it really does NOT take much to make it comply
Then again they are pretty much as drop in as they get for a EFI motor in an older rig

ummm ive been thinkin feverishly about this.(seriously LOL)Im thinking I should just go get a complete dash made for that 97 car.I know ebay has em relativly cheap.Then all would be plug & play.I was thinking the jack that you plug the computer in under the dash would be diff on the obd1 dash!!??
If i get the motor slapped in this 97 car & get the dash & parts needed to switch would you be willing to swap it for me?We arent in a big hurry & my son works at Jack in the Box & he could pay you in Burgers(heheh) no he would pay you in $$
I just am a bit afraid to tackle this on my own.We would have to rent a space to do it & probably spend money on tools ect ect. where we could just pay you that money! I would have to trailer it to you tho after we put the motor in it.Or would it be easier with it out & do the motor last?We are gonna get the motor cleaned up this weekend as its on the front clip out of the car on the floor now!Were going to clean it all up & replace the oil pan gasket ect ect.Be kewl to get some lt1 headers but money is so tight now im not sure I can pull this off.Not to mention the MaMa is a wee bit pissed at me for letting the kid behind the wheel of that car in first place.But its worth nothing right now & would like to see us get it back together if for nothing else than to stare at it in the driveway till he graduates HS.please please
