Seems like a simple question... Can you pull an lt1 out the top or do you have to drop it out through the bottom? A guy I work with says you can't pull it out the top and that just seems a little weird to me. I realize the engines are halfway under the dash but is it possible?

depends on available resources.
if you have a hoist/cherry picker... out the top
if you have a lift.. out the bottom
but yeah, both are doable.
i have pics from an LS1 top removal if you want to see.

By taking it out the top you still leave every thing hooked up and the car can be moved. if you take it out of the bottom the car is stuck on the lift and you get to bleed the brakes and fill the A/C 
you can put the K-member back on but the brakes will not work and you will have to take it back off again.
I just find it easier to take them out the top. We have even removed a C-5 out the top. it was not nearly as hard as people said it would be

I'd like to be able to show him. Evidentally he's paying some guy $300 to pull the engine.
I figured it wouldn't have been as hard as he said.
