Two comments....

1) Damn... the subject material of those pics sucks

2) Have you considered hand modelling?

Seriously... whats the plan now?

Well, I have never had a problem with the Comp R's previously. You guys do realize how much of a PITA changing out Lifters on an LS1 is? I went with OEM replacements from Crane. My cam isn't big enough to warrent a $500 set of lifters. I am under .600 lift and don't spin over 6500 rpm... fingers crossed.

DAMN!!!

So what was your symptom? Since I'm running a similar setup to yours for lift & rpm level, some of my body parts are suddenly quivering.....did you just start to get a bunch of rocker arm noise, or was it something else?

And as much of a PITA that job is, I'm sure glad you found it before it went

Actually it was really odd, the valve train was quiet at idle up to 1700 rpm and 3000 rpm and up. But if the rpm was held constant from 1700-3000 rpm the lifter would bleed down and make noise. I think its hit or miss.

So no loose rocker arms when you pulled the covers, no missing / popping at hi rpms, no power loss above 5k, none of the "normal" signs a lifter is going bad? FRACK!!!

Been there done that, when Peppe had stock cubes couple years back with the 847 and 1.7s, she went a good 9 months before eating a CompR. Surprised Comp hasn't redesigned yet.

Why yes, I do. But I also have adj rockers, which is rumored to lessen the risk on this issue (or so I thought). Here is a link to the LOOOONG thread on this subject on the Camaro website:

I am sorry to hear of your troubles man, that truly blows I had no idea ....
Umm I did have a question, not to hijack the thread, is the rest of Comps stuff an issue ? I did the #54100 valve train set and a Comp Cams cam
54-412-11 (XR265HR) *or something like that ... Should I have em yanked before the engine is in final assembly this week ? I went with Crane Lifters simply cause I got a smoking deal on some over stocks... but now I am scared.. I am in way too deep and your pics are giving me cold sweats

A familiar sight....

01T-TopToy,

I use lots of other Comp stuff without worry. It's just the R lifters I won't touch. Once burned.... To their credit, they replaced mine with a new set. I sold those bastards and put the stock ones back in.

I wish now the Morrels or Jessels would have been available when I was building my motor. Certainly would have been worth an extra $3-400 for the peace of mind!!!

ya don't need AC in Seattle do ya? Damn sure do in Houston. Well I'm keeping my AC too, SpeedSpecialty has a keep your ps/ac alternator relocation bracket instead, so I can run tall valve covers with shaft mounted Jessels and set my valve lash in under 20 minutes without moving my Alternator every time. I don't want to have a strip only NO AC car ...not yet anyway...

question: What cam are you running?
There have been some issues with FM13's and eating lifters that I read about.
