Default Weekend Results - B-town 4/21-22

As the first one home I figured I should do the honors.

My best pass was my first. I pulled a 13.841. After that, the track was getting pretty dirty and I never managed better than 14.0. My line lock worked great, beautiful Nitto Clouds. Unfortunately, I still couldn't manage to get below 2.1 60' times. I must be doing something wrong. I also noticed my launches seem better when I have more pressure in the tires.

Russ (Krautburner) was there, he pulled a 13.5 that I saw, and I think he had a 13.4 as well.

Some of you may also know Neil, he drove a black Mach-1 last year, and converted to GM. He traded the Mach-1 in on a 2006 A6 C6. He ran 12.7-13.0 bone stock and barely broke in.

There were a father/son duo there with an LS1 Camaro SS with a procharger and an LT1 Z28(stock). The SS was running low 13's and the Z28 low 14's.

I decided to call it a night and come back in the morning when the track should be prepped better. Maybe then I can trim a little more off.

Any time you can better your "sig" time is a good outing! Good luck tomorrow going deeper!

As the first one home (I have other plans for tonight) let me just say...today ROCKED! It was a beautiful day to be at the track.

As for times, I got 3 runs before I left.

Run #1 - Ran Good, but still too slow out of the box. 13.731@105.22.

Run #2 - Still slow out of the box, and hit the limiter in 1st as I was distracted by Jason's unique launch(got a bit sideways). 13.926@104.02.

Run #3 - Finally got the launch I was looking for. 13.541@103.62 on a 1.938 60'!!!

All in all, new best ET, new best MPH and new best 60'...a trifecta of happiness.

It was great to see so many of the gang there. I can't wait to hear everyone else's final numbers.

Geez theres only 11 cars on the list. I could actually make the top 10 if I can ever get to the track.

Hey Chrisisman,

The line lock and launch is tricky. I played with burnout techniques when I was doing some drag racing.

Are you driving through the water box?
Burning out in the water box?

Here's what I would do:

Drive around the water box
Back into it, and turn the tires over
Then I'd pull forward, set the linelock and then do my burnout.

This way you're not flinging all kinds of water into the wheel well, that will then drip back down onto the tire once you're sitting at the line.

I've heard people say to use 2nd gear for the burnout. I never really liked this cause I was afraid for my poor little stock clutch, so I always used 1st and held it for 5-10 seconds (depending if I was hot lapping or what).

Good luck man, practice is the key. I went from a 13.6 to a 12.8 by just practicing. NO CHANGES to the car at all!

Of course the best I ever pulled was a 1.9 60' time, but again I think that's all my stock clutch would hold.

Even being good about wearing my hat I still got a little pink on the ears and neck.

For the burnout, I drive around the box and back in.
I then start the burnout in first, and shift to second.
When I've got a good white cloud I release the lock and let it spin out of the box to dry the tires.

I never did think about dripping from the wheel well. I'll have to give your method a try and see if it makes a difference.

My best launch was at 2500rpm with a quick clutch slip, and I did get just a wee bit of chirp before it grabbed solid.

Well the day in started off great lots and lots of cars but most of us had two runs in early, then the fast cars started breaking and they kept breaking, then the timing gremelins hit.

Saw couple of 10's from our group.

Dorothy ran a 13.86, as fast as a Hummer.

Is "she" stock? If so that is mighty impressive sir.

Sorry everyone seemed to be having mechanical issues.

Well, I had a disappointing run. Got there late (2:30) and only got ONE run in. First time ever driving a manual at the track, so I was scared a bit. Drove up with my helmet unbuckled and my window down, got yelled at, finally got it, drove around the water-box and did a quick spin to clean the tires, sat there for a while after the light turned green  and then proceeded to take off.

Babied first, then realized that my friends' 6'er was ahead of me and I hadn't spun 'em at all, floored it when I was already probably at 4k RPMs, got squirly in second and then banged the rev limiter, and braked 100ft before the finish line (hence the trap)

14.529 @ 93.67 R/T of .770 Oh well, live and learn!

As Ellis & Steve said, it seemed to be a gremlin kind of day. At lest none of our group broke, since that gremlin was EVERYWHERE. We saw eveything from pinions blowing out onto the ground, to a nitrous plate blowing thru the windshield of a Vette, to a Mustang descintegrating the front part of the car (0 left from the shock towers forward!)

My best run of the day ws the first pass. I was lined up next to a Pro Street turquoise Chevy pickup truck. I treed him by a hair, and then proceeded to pull him the entire track. I cut a .9 light, ran a 1.50 60', and then went on to a 10.93 @ 123 into a 30mph head wind. Not bad since the shifts were off, etc etc.

So I started tweaking things & ran 2 11.0s & an 11.28 with the tires spinning. At least I know the car will run 10.90s like I wanted. I have a new stall coming that should help a little, & I think 3.40 gears are too high.....I'm trapping at 5500rpm. Maybe 3.70s are the ticket for this setup.

Anyway, I am happily clinging to 3rd place. Soon to be 4th or 5th by the look of things. Who'd have thunk you'd need to run solid 10s to be in the top 5 this year?

Oh, and for those that didn't get to see Don's last pass, all I can say is DAMN!!!

I'm ready to race! Worst light of the day was an .062 and best was a .001. The car ran PERFECT all day without a single hickup.

11.552 1.581 114.95
11.613 1.613 115.74
11.534 1.592 117.11
10.381 1.525 127.98 *

*Just a little juice to make things interesting

Don, that's one killer time, congrats. However, I am coming for that coveted #2 spot, and that Bad Azz Chevy II. I have a best 60 of 1.53 and a best trap of 128.xx, but the ET has been off. I think with my new fuel system and stickier/taller tires, and of course a near perfect run, maybe we'll see that ET area.

Edit: Ellis make any spray passes? and any times?

Not too bad for 9.50 tires eh?

I think I have quite a bit more....

I didn't purge at all to soften the hit. Another tenth in the 60' should equate to .2 or .3 in the ET. And then there's always bigger jets....

Any pictures / videos make it out?

Mark, Ellis, Don it was a blast kicking it with you all after the session on the way home. Thanks for letting the 'ole Ford guy tag along.

Unfortunately somewhere on the trip home my car is running into timing issues (I think) and is continuing to pull it back throughout the powerband and running like hell. It's chugging pretty bad.

And wow was I tired. Slept in past noon today!

Robert one MAJOR thing you are missing here: He's running an Automatic. If his MPH is the same as yours, he will ALWAYS run a faster ET. Simple physics.
