Default Ellis - question for you about brakes

My breaks suck. What would you suggest for a DD that would give me more stopping power and a much better initial bite with a somewhat soft initial pedal feel? I don't have a budget yet but I would like to know what would be a ballpark price, installed.

I have found some of the cheaper sets give better real world driving. I have had the BEST luck with Factory pads. Not exactly cheap but always nice to drive on

I could give you a price and every one on here will tell you they would help or to do it your self and save the cash

So PM me I figure at least two hours to do it RIGHT!

I just bought ZO6 13" rotors/calipers so I can ditch my crappy single piston 10.5" front rotors. I'm extatic.

Nick,

I really like how the EradiSpeed slotted / drilled rotors look & work. And the Hawk pads stop good, don't make noise, and create very little dust.

Another vote for the Hawk pads...even on stock brakes/rotors/etc. They make a marked improvement.

As opposed to a "kit" type thing you may want to look into stock style like the c6 zo6 brakes. 14" rotors with 6 piston front calipers. They bolt directly on the c5 bracket location so I don't know about the fbody ones. Plus you'll have an insane amount of pad choice soon.

Just got a set of Wilwoods for my 56 Olds. 13 inch, six piston all the way around.
Also added a hydraboost system.

Damn that looks nice! But how big was the hole in your bank account? I don't even think those fit with my 17" wheels. They don't fit in my budget either...

Pagid Blacks ...... dust like crazy, squeal badly when cold, and stop like nothing else I've tried on the track OR the street. I ran them for a year and loved them. They're not for everyone though. Depends on how big your aversion is to squealing and dust

Ryan K is running a Wilwood setup (or Precision) and has 17" ZR1s last time I saw his car. He is a distributor so you might want to send him a PM.

Nick, you can do a Baer or C5 brake kit for slightly less than $1000. You could shop for the c5 stuff used to save money if you wanted. They do make a wilwood kit for the fbods but the Baer kit is fine enough. Wilwoods dont come with dust protection either do they? They meant more for the track and controlled environments is what I read. Something about not coming with dust covers so they need to be rebuilt sooner than others when used on the streets. Something to that effect. This is just what I read when I was shopping for mine.
