Default Got the corvette

Well yesterday I picked up the corvette. I was a little nervous about going to buy a car sight unseen. I talked to the dealer guy several times over the phone about the car. Everything seemed great with the car. When I show up the car was just as described. Seems to run real good and is very clean.

The only problem that I have noticed, is what seems to be an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifolds. You can here a slight ticking sound when you get on it a little. It might also be a noisy injector, but I'm leaning towards exhaust gasket leak. Not a big deal, and I'm sure most people wouldn't even notice it.

The big problem. It has a tape player in it. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but we're driving all the way back to WA from L.A. We got a book on CD and want to listen to it. So i bought a CD player from Best Buy along with the install kit, wiring harness, and antena adapter. Of course they can't get me in to install it, so we decide that I can install it at our friends house who we stayed with. Should be a simple thing (we've both done several stereos). Well it isn't. For one thing our friend didn't have a test light that would have really helped out. We fiddle with it for several hours to no avail. and re-install the stock stereo and then drive to San Fran (where I"m at now). Go back to another best buy and they give me a different harness and tell me that I need to tap into a switched power source cause the factory one uses something else.

So tommorrow I'm going to get a test light and get it done. I can't believe a stupid CD player is this difficult. It would be a lot easier if I were at home and had all my tools at my disposal....oh well.

Oh yeah, the car has this gas mileage calc. Running about 75 most of the way here, it says we're getting 30.5mpg

I"ll try to get some pictures of it up tommorrow after we go to jail (touring Alcatraz tommorrow)

Congrats on the Vette, I also have an FRC great looking cars. Don't believe that fuel mileage, the cars do get great mileage if cruising at freeway speeds, but the computer is very optimistic. I just finished a 6600 mi. trip back east computer says 30.2 mpg actual math worked out to 27.8 mpg still very good for a performance car. Some of the vettes had an issue with broken welds on the exhaust easy fix, hope its not a lifter problem.

most likely injector chatter, mine does the same - I wouldn't worry about it too much

Well I got the stereo hooked up. It needed a switched power source. I read through the owners manual and there is actually an extra power wire by the body control module (passenger side foot well) and I used that power source. Then the stereo fired up like a champ.

We went to downtown San Fran today and did some driving around. Then when we got back we filled up. Ended up getting 27.3mpg and the computer was saying 29.2 or something like that. I was reading on corvette forum that there is a correction factor in the computer that you can actually change to get a more acurate figure. Might do that if I ever end up with HP tuners or whatever.

Tommorrow its on to Gold Beach OR.

Just got back from our trip....1393 miles. It was a nice drive most of the way. I must say though, the seats in the vette aren't the most comfortable for that long of a drive (it has the base seats....the sport seats with the lumbar support would have been real nice).

Managed to get 31.2 mpg going through Oregon and Washington (display showed 33 something).

Here's a picture from along 101

Allright, another NW vette guy. You going to drag it? On the seats, keep an eye in the parts at vetteforum, as Z06 seats come up every so often. they are much better than the hard azz base seats. Let me know when your ready for your nitrous kit.

Congrats on the Vette, I miss mine terribly I wouldn't be suprised to se an 04 Z06 in my garage within a year, maybe I can talk the wife into letting me get a Yellow one this time

Another option if your a little guy is the Corbeaus I believe the A1's even Z06 seats are PATHETIC holding you in on a hard corner. I had to brace myself are slide off. I had a set of Corbeau TRS's in my 93 TA but I think you have to go with the narrower ones in the C5... It would probably cost about 200 more then the Z06 seats...

What he said. Z06 seats are great for long drives, on the track they are terrible. I am relatively thin, I slide all ofer the place in the corners, my arm/leg/back muscles hurt after a track day from trying to stay in one place... My left speaker has a permanent dent from where my knee goes in the left turns for bracing

i'll stop ranting now...

Well I'm probably going to get a harness for autocross racing, that should help prevent the sliding all over.

Now I just need some seats.
