Yes, the 71-73's were designed for big blocks and Ford let them grow (like the T bird). Ironically, due to the decline of muscle cars, no big blocks found there way into that body style. The public reaction to the bigger stang was very negative, so Ford shrunk it again for '74, producing the Mustang II -the red headed step child of Mustangs. I don't think either body style is bad though. Then again, I've owned more than 20 Mustangs so liking-them-all poses a separate set of problems. I can see that some of the members on this site are following in my footsteps, except with Chevies.

On a lighter note the fox body Stangs can be easily found cheep, beef'd up and raced. Think of them as an American version of the Honda's that poor high school kids love buying dirt cheep and "racing"--(by racing I mean installing coffee can exhaust's)--minus the Made In Japan 4cyl gutless wonder engines.

but since were actually talking a '73.. well.. hurray for the 351? ^^;

I prefer comparing the foxes with the 55-57 Chevy as hot rod material, but I guess that's a generational preference.

The comparison being they are easy to find, restore or throw an engine in for relatively cheap. I don't know how easy I could find '50 chevy's--but you may be right.

The 55-57's were cheap and easy to find when I was young, but not anymore.
