Have the itch for C3 am I crazy????
So my first vette was a 76 and then I had an LT1 70 roadster. For some reason I'm starting to want another 69-72 roadster...it would probably next winter 07 before I could pick one up.
I can't afford an LT1 again they are starting at 35k right now and to get one I'd have to sell the SS which isn't happening.
So I could pick up a non matching numbers driver for probably 16-18 and mod it to my liking. I could also do a restored one for another 10 but then I have 300 hp regular 4 spd and rear car.
So I'm just pondering right now but if I did get this a C6 or a new 09 Camaro would be out of the question if I wanted to stay married. I could swing the C3 because its a roadster and the wife would love it. Plus the C3 would fit nicely in my garage
Am I crazy? Should I just restore my 73 SD Formula instead (25k EASY)

68-72 Vettes are real sweet, but so is a 73 SD Formula.I'd have a hard time choosing between the two also. But since you have the SS already,I'd think I would go with the Vette since you said your not getting rid of it.Now if you have young ones that liked to cruise with you I'd restore the 73 cause of the four seats, plus SD's are rare.

You know you bring up a good point with the seats in the 73...... The 73 would probably be a 5-6 year project. The interior is bueatiful but the rest of the car needs work, not too mention its been sitting in an unheated garage in Alaska for the last 20 years.....the SS has a roll bar so the rear seats are useless....
It just seems like a daunting task, I'm looking at probably 15k alone in body work, paint to get it to new condition I'm guessing after all the "little extras" add up. Its actually pretty straight and to get it looking decent wouldn't take half that much but to do it "right" would be expensive.

I went a Corvette show a few weeks ago, and there were some really pretty C3s there... if you have the wallet and the patience, restoring one of those and making a show car out of them nets a beautiful automobile to own.
And you Bobby... you're not crazy at all.

I've always liked the older Vettes and wanted one for a long time. I recently had been thinking about a move to older muscle but when I take a serious look at what I want when I drive a car they just dont match up. The performance just isn't the same. You have to drive those older cars with care. They dont handle or brake as well.
But for a sunday cruiser and show car it would be great!! Honestly I think either car would be cool. I would lean towards the Formula, but thats me.

Been there done that The SS was almost a gift so its not going anywhere unless I get some kind of ridiculous offer on it. Plus the cost to reproduce would be high as well as it only has 24k on the clock and maybe a couple thousand on the new motor/heads/intake/clutch.
I do appreciate the comments, you guys got me thinking about the Formie again...the car is not for sale by any means just always been an idea of "someday" I'll get to it. I should go up to Alaska anyways maybe next spring I'll head up and check it out.
The C3 roadster I had was the funnest car I've ever owned. It was an amazing feeling driving that thing on a beautiful day. But I was also 23 and alot of things have changed since then maybe it wouldn't be as enjoyable after owning the Z06....but done right they are very nice cars.

It's the whole 10 year cycle thing in progess. Ever notice how you always want a car you owned or enjoyed 10 years ago? Funny thing is, your mind plays tricks on you because you only remember the GOOD times you had in that car. You never seem to remember the expensive repairs, or nickle/dime things, leaky oil pan, slipping clutch, misc. squeaks/rattles, uncomfortable seats or the fan belts slipping off all the time. Memory lane has always been a one way street.
Granted, a chrome bumper car would be cool as hell though. The Formula would be a neat project for sure, but it would require a lot of time, work, effort, especially being in Alaska.
My .02.

From: LT1 land...the "409" of the 90s!
I have been thinking the same thing only wickedly done.
Imagine..if you will..A fully decked out 67 427 roadster...rolling a on C5 chassis with a TTLS7 and a T56
Oddly enough the ONLY wheels that would pull this off are TTIIs
