Maximum Corvette: Lutz Confirms Blue Devil Is Nigh

According to the Detroit Free Press, GM's Maxibob Lutz says the new, 600-hp Dodge Viper will soon have some competition from the General. Lutz confirmed what sources have been saying for over a year -- that Chevrolet will build the high-powered super 'Vette known as "Blue Devil" or "Stingray" or, in some circles, "Paukert the Exclaimer." The car is expected to launch in 2009 with 650 hp, though a rumored hood scoop made of duct tape and cardboard boxes has yet to be confirmed. – Mike Spinelli

Oh look, more pictures of the ever-talked about and certain to be announced "Blue Devil" Corvette. It's getting to the point that we know you can recite the rumored numbers The Car Connection repeats mantra-like by heart -- "a supercharged Z06-derived 7.0-liter V8 with 600 hp and a $100,000 pricetag." All we've got to say is this little devil's due to make an appearance on an auto show floor at a date of "really, really, really soon." Sounds like a good way to keep the enthusiasts semi-erect until the real muscle car wars begin when the Camaro gets it's coming out party. – Ray Wert

Dang it! I started with an LS1 conversion because that's the only GEN III motor that was out in early 2000. I had to upgrade to the LS6 after it came out and as you all know I had to step it up a notch and get an LS7 when it came out. Heaven forbid if now I have to get an LS9 I feel like I'm upgrading my PC, not my car

The timing of this thing is interesting. With the new Camaro coming out and now promises of the Blue Devil Corvette seeing production, which one will be the bigger story?
And will Chevy WANT to launch both cars at the same time?
Just more poor planning on their part if you ask me. They missed the most opportune time to have re-launched the Camaro and now they are scrambling to play catch up again as they were caught napping as Dodge blew by them again.
And with the price tags being talked about it boils down to this:
For the billionaires of the world, buy both.
For the millionaires of the world, buy the Corvette.
For the weekend warior, buy the Camaro.
For everyone else, buy a Ford.

The Camaro is a couple of years down the road yet. Inflation alone will kick these cars up that high. And GM already said they are shooting for a $30k price tag for the base models. That means that you should not be surprised to see an "average equipped LS2" for right around $35k-$39k. I still have the original sticker for my T/A. Granted it was fully optioned for that year including the convertible and WS6 package. It was over $41k in 1999.

Now granted, as memory serves, the only options I found available were the WS6, NHRA package, CD changer, TCS and Hurst Shifter.........what else was there for the LS1 TA's? Aside from verts that is?
What was on your car to make it sooooooo much?

After re-checking my sticker, AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Huling Buick Pontiac GMC car
All joking aside, it looks like the upcharges were for the WS6 package, remote 12 disc changer (in addition to the Monsoon system), Traction Control, Rear Performance Axle, and the Custom Bucket Seats (just try to find one without them). Total price = $40,644 plus tax and licensing.
Of course I bought it for much less a couple of years later .
