As for the technical discussion, all I can say is I've replaced about 10 cams in LS1s now. I can do it in ~8 hrs start to finish. And I STILL go see Ellis when I have a question. That tool is a MUST for the rear seal, but I've done the front seal without it & had no leaks. But if I had the choice I would use it....

What tool for the front cover??? I'm in the middle of my h/c swap right now and I've never used a tool on the front cover. I thought there was one for aliginng the whole shebang if you had the engine out fron rear and oil pan..??
I leave all the bolts loose until the pulley is seated then tighten up evenly... is this wrong?

Mark, no worries. Got the exhaust welded up today, got a chance to get on it. Wow what a difference. Accidentally hit the rev limiter twice. It sure winds much more freely now. I do not have my o2's plugged in yet and i'm sure it's in limp mode because of it but still goes better than before. I just need to extend my front o2's and adjust the steering linkage as it kinda binds on turns and tune. Other than that all went well.
