Default Header Install

I have a set of QTP LT headers that I would like to get on my car ASAP. I actually went out to Auburn today to have a performance shop install both my headers and make me a custom ORY to match up w/ my Magnaflow catback. When I got up there they said they couldn't do it because my car has EGR/AIR fittings and the headers are "race" style w/ no fittings. They said they couldn't be responsible for the car throwing codes and possibly not starting. I told them to just remove the EGR/AIR and they wouldn't do it. They said I'd have to install the headers myself and then come back to have the Y-pipe made. Problem is I have no free time. I'm getting married very soon and completely busy until I leave and for about 1 month after I get back. I want these on SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad, so I'm willing to pay someone $200 to remove my EGR/AIR and install my headers for me if possible. Please let me know if you can help!!

Thanks guys..
Bryan

So take the EGR/AIR off, tune it out, and then take the car back to them.

All you'd need is a set of blank offs, and a 1-3/8" freeze plug, and then something to program the EGR/AIR off the computer.

Having just done this myself 3 days ago, I'd say you could probably get Ellis to do it, but I bet he'd charge more than $200. I'm not sure if you realize what an involved job it is on a 4th gen, it's really a lot of work. All said and done it took me about 14 hours, and that was with having the help of another person for about 6 hours of that time.

And hey... I bought my headers in February, and it took me until May to get them coated, just installed them last week.

Hmmmmmm......

How hard of job was it to remove the EGR/AIR and how long did it take? I think the biggest issue would be finding somebody to tune the codes out once I did it. I do not know much about the EGR/AIR stuff. Once I remove it, will it affect performance in anyway or is just going to throw codes and that's it?

Even still......anyone out there want to make $200 and do it all for me, the offer still stands

I'm leaving for Vegas on August 15th and would love to come back a married man driving a car w/ full exhaust

Most shops would charge you closer to 6 or 7 hundred dollars for that job. Not trying to put a damper on your enthusiasm but it is a pretty tedious job.
I have done it 3 times, and it does not get any easier.

EGR / AIR delete is complete CAKE. Unbolt all the stuff, all of which is easily accessible... bolt a blank off on the AIR fittings, plug the EGR hole in the manifold. You could probably find someone here on the forum with a copy of HP Tuners that was unlocked for the whole '99 model year to tune out the EGR / AIR stuff in the computer. That would be real easy.

Like Doug said... not to put a damper on your enthusiasm... but good luck with that.

Well I'm definitely going to do the egr/air myself so I can have the shop who was initially suppose to install the headers do it for me. They are only charging $500 at the very most for the install of the headers and making a custom Y to match them up w/ my Magnaflow catback so it sounds like I'm getting a pretty good deal.

Damn, I would put the headers on for you for 200, but as far as the Y goes. Your on your own. lol. Its pretty much an all day event, putting headers on, espically without a Lift. I hope you find someone that can help you out..

500.00 is a good price for an install and y-pipe. I would go with it.

Having done / helped on MANY header installs on F-bodies, $500 is a fair price. They are all a little different, but ALL are a *****!
