My wife wanted a new daily driver so we stepped up and bought a new 5.3L Monte SS. What's more amazing to me than this is the fact that now our 3 car garage holds 3 cars with GEN IV motors totaling 1200+ HP! For the fact, with our 2000 Silverado also having a 5.3L GENIII everything we own now is an LSx motor! What a transformation in 5 years!
Not only that but two monte's with LSx motors Congrats John now if only they stayed with RWD on those. How's the torque steer? I know some of the older V8 FWD cadillac STS's they'd almost wanna rip the wheel out of your hands if it was anything more than stock.
Thanks for the positive feedback everyone (EXCEPT GEORGE!)
How's the torque steer?
Personally I think it's bad because everytime my wife is in the car and I halfway get on it rounding a corner she accuses me of driving recklessly because of how the steering must be corrected......probably because I'm not used to it!
Nice. I take it you kinda like these motors. lol
Oh yes! They're my favorite now! You'll never see me messing with a carb again!
Any mods planned?
I was thinking about bolt-ons (1.8 RR's cold air, exhaust, tuning), however, it is my understanding that beginning in '07 they can tell if the ECM has been flashed!!! Not good and this would void the warranty!
Your so lucky a monte carlo ss I had to get my wife a 7 second 175mph s/c dragster no LSX engine... 1050 hp 499 bbc Hi John...
George, George, George......of all people you should understand my competitive nature by now.....if I want to get her a purpose built racing machine it would run under 7 seconds, have over 1050 HP and be bigger than 500 cubes
Didn't know they put the V8 back in those. Do you have an engine bay shot?
I'll have to see if I can round one up or take one for you.
Come on John as long as I've known you...Competive nature, Your the King the wife does have a TBSS as her everyday driver Just need to fine the time to get a turbo on it! Take care, George
Come on John as long as I've known you...Competive nature, Your the King
I don't think that I've made that claim, and if I recall the "Wiley Avenue" days in front of the Tacoma Dome (before Tacoma's finest interupted us) I think we settled for a draw!
Um, does this apply to ALL 2007 GM's or is this just certain ones?
From the links provided and the one from GM, it doesn't "appear" like they are using the EDR to check much besides pre-crash data. And it seems that GM has been able to tell if the ECM has been flashed before for a while now.......
Nice John! I love the look of those SS Montes. But since I see Predators & CAIs hanging on the walls at many of the new car parts counters, I have trouble believing GM or Chrysler could void your warranty if you made adjustments. Not to say they wouldn't try...
They can void the warranty on anything the modification could effect. But they can't void the warranty on the whole car (i.e. engine mods and voiding the body warranty or the suspension). I've seen dealers void the warranty on a MAF because the person over oiled their K&N and it fouled out their MAF.
