I wired my entire shop myself - 4 panels, 7,000 feet of wire, 100+ outlets so I guess I'm one of those guys.

I didn't want to offer advice to someone and then read the headline on the news...

"Man fries himself and burns down his house using information from the internet"

VERY CAREFULLY!

I wired my shop. I have been doing it since I was a Kid but never did 220v until then. Same basics just more hot wires

I bought a book

BTW All your talk of air compressors made mine eat a belt after 5 1/2 years

I ported 6 throttle bodies straight with my little 26 gallon husky on 110v. It almost kept up, I had to give it 2min every 10min or so. I'm happy with it. It's actually pretty quiet for a cheap compressor too. That big compressor should do pretty well for you if you would google a wiring diagram already.

You CAN do it yourself. BUT, if you don't get it inspected & have a fire that is caused by your work your insurance won't cover it.

yeah, it's easy. The main thing is sometimes making room for the actual breaker if you don't have an open spot (well, actually two)

Does the compressor have 3 or 4 wires on the plug?

That's an area where if you don't know what you're doing, you're best leaving the job to people who do. I'd rather pay someone a hefty fee to do it right than have my house burn down.
