Default Wa state and emmision testing

I'm considering applying for a job in Snohomish county and see they require emission testing there. My car lacks any and all emmision equipment and has a big cam in it (T-rex) and I know there is 0% chance of passing. I have to assume there are others in similar situations and wondering if there is a way around it. When I lived in Alaska, you could get a season permit which only allowed you to operate the vehicle during the summer months. I see there is a waiver, but you have to take it to a shop and they have to ensure you have all the smission stuff on the car and then if you don't pass they may give you a waiver. Sounds like a PITA. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions.

Does your car throw any SES codes? If not you should be good to go.. They don't do a visual or a sniffer test on OBDII cars. Worst case scenario is you get a PO box in a different county, one that doesn't require emissions testing.

I've heard they've been cracking down on the PO Box thing though because of people using that to avoid municipality taxes and require it to be a residence.

Yup you can't do the PO box thing anymore... my Grandpa used to do it.

But to the OP, you should be good to go. Passing emissions is easy as hell here.

A word of advice, if you are thinking of just registering the car somewhere else/in another city or county that does not require emmissions, don't test the car at all. When you do the VIN gets flagged as a failed attempt. I ran into this with a 911 track car I had.. and I tested... it failed bigtime (I was leaving gas stains on the asphalt when it was idling in the station and the exhaust was hitting the ground. hahaha)

It was a MAJOR pain *** to "prove" that I lived somewhere else. It can be tricky.

Thanks for the info, makes me feel a little better. As far as the codes go, I've turned off everything that throws a code as far as emmisions seeing I have nothing. I've heard if they are going to scan you need to turn them to disable or something other than turning them off all together, otherwise it might show up on their system?? Any truth to this? Worse case, I have some soon to be ex-family (getting divorced, lol) that live in Kelso / Longview. Not sure if they are required to test down there. But on good terms with everyone and sure I could just register at thier house if need be.

Longview and Kelso should be test free. I don't think they are far enough south to be in Clark county. I could be wrong. The areas are listed here:

http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/C...tive_pages.htm

"In Washington, emission testing is required in the urban areas of Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane counties..."

As long as there's no current codes and your readiness cycle is set to ready, which requires some drive cycles after clearing codes you're good to go. Just make sure your gascap is good, check engine light bulb lights up with the key on, engine off, and of course no codes.

I know of someone on here with a red t/a that passed emissions last year and it was FAR from emissions friendly.

i passed my car in seattle.. every employee at the emission shop had to take a peek at my back end, and i was thinking they werent going to pass me for having dumped exhaust. I think as long as your not throwing any codes your good to go?

I took my 2003 H2 in for emission test today, it's first one. Went to the Puyallup test station. My last car I did there (00 Cavalier), they scanned the OBDII port and that was it. Today they put a sniffer in the pipe and had me hold 2500rpm for like 15-30 secs. I was like WTF? It passed fine, but I thought that was some BS.
