somebody back me up on this
this kid at my school just got a 94 z 28. i said that has lt1 in it right? he said no its an lt4. i say oh ok and kinda just let it go. later i was asking what he had. he said headers, but i need to get new ones cuz these ones dont flow well , i got cams (yes he said cams) and cold air intake. it makes 370 whp and 450 hp at the crank. i say cool whats it run. he goes well the guy before me raced it before when it had about 80 hp less (290 whp) and he went 12.9 on street tires so i think it will run low 12s.
i then asked if he had heads and he said oh ya i forgot.
any input? im just simply confused about his logic
now after all that is said i must say the car is very nice for what it is. its dark grey with black ss stripes, has a tv in the center console and looks pretty clean

There is a set up that you can make a LT1 an LT4 but it runs nearly $2k for the kit.
LT4's were 4-bolt mains.
LT4's had lighter, stronger cranks.
LT4's had EGR delete. (the conversion kit may do that, but you'd have to program it out to pass a OBDII scan if installing on a 96/97 LT1... and I belive that's techincally illegal).

A custom-built LT1 is just that... a custom built LT1... you're not going to get GM to retitle the car or redesignate the engine for you... it's an LT1.

on "street tires" could mean drag radials...
and "80 hp less" could mean 80 less at the crank (370 crank...310 rwhp?).
Not saying he isn't talking out his ***, but a really light 4th gen with 310 rwhp and drag radials may have a chance... but I wouldn't bet on it unless it was lightened-up and had a high stall, gears, and a tail wind.
But it sounds like he's talking for the sake of noise.

Yeah, but the cost of buying an LT4 crank and block makes a "swap" pointless. A decent LT1 heads/cam car can beat teh **** out of a LT4 any day and for less cash. Even if someone wasted their money to "make" an LT4, the fact is that their VIN nubmer, and the VIN number on the engine block would prove otherwise.
