Wow, that is dishearting. I wonder if I should scrap my LS6 intake.

Interesting how it's in almost the exact same spot... Granted I've never built a motor so are all the pistons gonna have the ring gap in that area?

It's not the intake that is the suspect here, it's the LS6 coolant bypass line you have to use because of less clearance under the LS6 intake (no feeder to the rear of the heads resulting in over heating....or so some people think)

It has also been thought the cause is due to one of the cylinders going too lean. Boosted engines have a real problem with cyl 7, so some people are trying different things to see if it fixes it. (Vic Jr intakes for instance) An intriguing who done it.

this is WAHUSKER on Ellis' computer by the way

See I have heard this, I don't use any oil, (my first LS1 not to do it.) Altough when I got the car it did. After my first couple 75 shots it totally stopped using any oil. I haven't sprayed in over a year though.
I wonder if there is a way to get coolant back there?
Also do the other LSX platforms have that bypass line? If not what did they do to fix the problem.

My 01 SS has 28,000 miles now and has had piston slap since i brought her home with 2 miles on the odometer. Never burned any oil though. Does the SS count as ram air even though it's not a true ram air?

01 z-28 here with piston slap as well. 38k with no problems yet. No oil consumption on my end either.

Bob posted this link in a post asking about turbo cams and I noticed in the build photos he was holding a piston that had cracked ring lands and looked like it was possibly an LS6 piston. He said it wasn't out of that particular car but as an example in the build story.

http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=32

wonder how many of these they've seen and what it was out of.

That is really strange! Look at the 2 pistons in this thread & compare them to the 1 in the EPP thread link. The cause of the ring lands cracking might be detonation or over heating, but there almost has to be a casting flaw in the pistons too. They ALL broke in the same place. (piston slap is usually a skirt-size issue, so maybe they have 2 flaws)

I wonder if we could build a case on this lol (doubtful) Hmmm I curious how many other people have come across this as well in their builds/rebuilds on stock parts.

I figured as much...There's no way Ellis could spell so many correctly in one post......

Build a case for what Josh? Surely not for having GM pay for any repairs.....especially not on motors that have big cams + nitrous & have been recorded going 172mph on a Nevada hwy.

I have two 6.0L Pistons that look like that, But I just figured 18 PSI on a stock long block caused it. Maybe I can get GM to fix it! LOL....

I know not gonna happen for my car, but I'm more curious about the people that are stock or pretty much stock save for a couple bolt ons that are having this issue. Especially those that are fairly low mileage.

I doubt GM would do anything anyways.
