is it possible to use a regular jack to assist in dropping the tranny? or do i NEED to rent a transmission jack? i think im going to start to tear it apart tonight... the clutch is really shot

You can use your belly if you're strong enough/redneck enough . Tranny jack, while advisable, is not 100% necessary.

A regular jack is just fine. Just make sure not to bend the disk by letting the transmission hang while putting the bolts in

cool, lol i dont think im strong enough to drop a transmission on my chest.. id probably die.
Ill probably have a buddy help my slide the transmission off, and put a side.

i have 2 different size jack stands... one is just alot beefier then the other. Should i have one end of the car higher then the other? Maybe the front end slightly higher?
