Default Test driving engine carts

A local Corvette owner had a 418 LS3 delivered to my shop last week for me to install. I had to build a second engine cart to drop the drivetrain down in one complete assembly. I told Ellis about this and he wanted to see what I had done so here it is:

It takes me a couple hours to disconnect the electrical harness, coolant lines, and the exhaust. Once its all disconnected and is clear of the car, I simply raise the body off the drivetrain. Once the body is off the drivetrain, separate the torque tube at the bell housing, pull the cart away and then move the engine cart and the rear end cart to where ever I need to place them. Once apart, I simply disconnect the harness from the engine, lift the engine off the K memeber and drop in the new engine. Going back in is easier if I have a second person to run the lift or spot for me, other than that once the carts are in position droping the body back onto the carts is simple as can be. It is almost easier to do a clutch job this way than to do it by removing the rear end separately.

That is very similar to how Bobby and I dropped out the Kmember/engine/suspension/transmission out of his SS last summer. Except we didn't have a vehicle lift LOL..... I think I ran a couple welds on that red cart haha.. If it fails you can blame me.

IMHO, this is the only way to go if you're pulling a complete drivetrain from a Ybody or Fbody. Looks good Tom.

That's what I was thinking when I saw this. Changing the clutch in my car was the biggest PITA job I've ever done on a car (including rebuilding engines, setting up rearends, timing belts, etc.)

Hi Mikey! Your welds were fine! That red cart had had two engines on it now. I actually sat the car on top of both carts to load test it, then me and anot fat boy hung ourselves on both ends and bounced a bit, the carts will hold the car up easily so I figure the engine and rear end would be a cake walk for the carts. I am going to change out the castors on the red car, them damn flat surfaced wheels make moving it much harder than the new cart with a crowned wheel. I can spin that new car around with my pinky, and when its loaded I can move it easily with just one finger
