NBM, Is it hard to match up correctly?
My car is in the paint shop right now getting my SS hood and spoiler painted back the factory color, Navy Blue Metallic. I'm just wondering if the paint will match up without fading it into the fenders and rear quarters. Doesn't Metallic paint lay a certain direction? The shop is certain that blending isn't necessary since the cars paint is almost perfect. As good as a 7 year old car can be anyway. I'm just wanting some thoughts on this. It will be completed by Friday so I've got my fingers crossed there won't be any obvious signs of fresh paint on just the hood and spoiler and another tint on the rest of the car.

So I guess its a hit or miss with these colors. Maybe it'll turn out good, they seem to be confident it will. He painted my third gen red, which is an easy color, and it turned out nice. We'll see, I'm just happy to get my SS hood and spoiler on the car. I'll post some pics when I pick it up.

What he said. I'd rather paint it once than have to re-do it if/when it doesnt match. Usually the darker colors are easier to match but the metallic makes it sort of tricky. Not to mention it is a 7-year old car.

I think it will probably be a question of if you want it good or if you want it perfect. I cant even stand the shade differences between my nose and the rest of the car on my SOM car, and its factory paint in prestine condition. But if you can live with REAL CLOSE then your probably fine. If you want it near perfect you will have to blend it...no if ands or buts about it.

The color will not match (unless its a shade variant) exactly, but it will be damn close if its a perfectly kept car. Typically anything over 5 years needs blending into the surrounding panels to ensure color correctness.
Metallics dont lay a certain way, thats total hogwash. What you thought they all layed magnetic north?

If i were u i will blend. You will never make a color perfect. You can get them to match pretty good on solids but metallic you are risking it. Either the Face would look good and the flop would be off or it can be the opposite. so just like he said bellow.
