hmmm, interesting since the paint code books do not like a ROM for any year 98-02. I didn't look into the LT1 cars though. But I did look thru their codes for 98 & didn't see any information about any color close to this except the Cayenne Red Matallic.

They made the same color for firebirds in 96,97,98 called
Red Orange Met.
They made a total of 600 fire birds.
368 base firebirds.
18 Base Conv.
44 formulas.
149 TA.
21 TA conv.

The paint code is 96

Are you sure thats ROM? It looks like Red Maple metallic to me, another rare color only offered in a certain year wasnt it? My Dream Ls1 was a Red Maple Metallic on camel interior unfortuneatly they stopped producing it by the time i got my license and my dad wouldn't buy me a used car. I ended up with boring torch red on neutral but i still loved it and i was the only 16 year old at school with a brand new 2002 WS6. I wanted that color so bad becuase my dad had a lifted GMC Duramax with the same color combo. Because they were so similar i, often wondered if it was the same paint with a different name. But i never got to compare them side by side. We need pics of all thes different rare red colors so everyone(myself included) can see the differences right next to each other

Yes I'm sure.
Never heard of that color heard of maple leaf firehawks but not that paint.
The color I stated above covers those years.
There is a maple red metallic I think it started in 2000 thru 2002 in the firebird line of cars little darker then ROM.
It looks like the camaro color is called monterey maroon metallic and started in 1999 thru 2002.
32 coupe 13 conv for 1999.

paint code is 44.

No ws6 cars were produced in that color.
ws6 cars had limited paint options.

I've been told that GM rotates suppliers at times. The codes might be different because of different manufacturers.

I know this post is from 2009 but...

I can't imagine why or how this would be possible on the Pontiacs when it wasn't the case for Camaro. For both model years, 2001 and 2002, the SOM color code for Chevrolet was 633H (RPO 71U). In fact, 633H was even used for the handful of model year 2000 (I believe there were about ~13 SOM cars built for 2000) Camaros built as a prep production run of this color.

Not sure if any SOM Pontiac owners will catch this, but it would be great if we could get someone to confirm what color code is actually printed on their SPID labels for both a 2001 and a 2002 SOM Pontiac.

I know when I had my NBM TA repainted, there were two different paint codes for that color. 28U I think is the Camaro code and 352E the TA code.

28U is just the RPO for NBM coloring, and it applies to both Camaro and Firebird for that same color. The actual paint code for NBM was 352E as you stated above, but this was the same color code for Camaro as for Firebird/TA. Perhaps the first letter might be different, such as U, L, or WA, but the rest should be the same as there was only one NBM shade offered for both nameplates.

Really need to go by paint code not the name of the paint used in marketing and sales material. Paint ref links also gives major paint manufacturer mix codes.

GM Sunset Orange Metallic 71/WA633H

Pontiac red orange metallic 1996-98 96/WA122B same as Cayenne Red Metallic for Chevrolet
