Default Som = rom?

Is Sunset orange metalic and Red orange metalic the same thing? i looked in the sticky about paint codes and saw nothing on ROM but i always see people calling SOM cars ROM. also went to the website in the sticky on paint codes ( paintscratch.com ) and didnt see ROM. Is this just what some people call SOM?

No, Red-Orange Metallic and Sunset Orange Metallic are completely different shades. Gimme a minute and I'll try to find you a pic that shows the difference.

This is Red Orange Metallic. As far as I know it was only available (on the LS1 cars) for the 1998 models. The one I've seen in person had kind of a slight candy paint look in the sunlight. It looked mostly like an orange tint of red, but almost like candy tangerine where the sunlight hit it (kind of like in the picture above).

No, I can tell by the pic in your sig that yours is definitely Sunset Orange. Personally, I like SOM better, but that's just me.

Bingo.

ROM does not have that bright shine in the sun that SOM does, but in the shade they look very close.

Never in the entire time I have been here have I seen a ROM colored car or even one talked about. Not sayin it doesn't exist but I haven't heard of that.

You sure your not thinking Cayenne Red Metallic?? That was a rare color offered I believe for only one year for the Pontiacs, I believe 98'. Then there is Medium Red Metallic also.

I didn't realize that the bird's actually got ROM. Had a friend that had a 97 Formula in that color and she called it cayenne red metallic...

Oh and SOM is a much hotter color!

I was trying to find the email she sent me on it and post the pic, but her car was an LT1, therefore, pre 98..but it's the same color as another friend's 98 Z that is cayenne red.

From what I understand, Cayenne Red and Red-Orange Metallic were very similar (some sources even claim that they are the same color) but whereas Cayenne Red was offered as a color choice for the Camaro, Red-Orange Metallic was only offered for Firebirds. Also, you will not come across a great number of them (ROM cars) as they were only available on the '96-'98 cars.
