I've got a cop in town who does custom painting.. He used a house of color clear with some black... a year later they still look brand spanking new. Not to mention when i get pulled over the first thing they say is the tailights soo.. LOL i use his name and they automatically tell me to have a good day. ROFL... but yeah... i heard to much negative on vht. i think he charged me like 75$ for the backs and 85$ for the fronts. backs he did all three lights and the smaller lights on the rear bumper. fronts he did lighter headlights and signals. couldn't complain. VHT i've heard down the road people having problems with it.

Ordered a water pump last night and it was late so I was talking to the guy(place was dead. it was almost closing time) Started looking around for VHT when the guy mentioned about some guy with a new gto who had mixed clear and his factory black instead of using it...

I know the guy but NO one knows the ratio

Just had mine done today. I took off the lights and scuffed them thoroughly with a grey scotchbrite pad, my paint shop friend tack rag'd em and sprayed them with a ppg clear with a little black tint mixed in, picture attatched arn't the best but you get the idea

I went ahead with the covers on mine. I had a chip in one of my tail lights so the covers were a better $$ decision. If you walk up close you can definitely tell their covers but i don't think they look bad. Mines a DD anyway so im not trying to win any shows. Plus like you said if a cop gets on to me i can just pop them off.

But the painted ones do come out better no doubt.

FINALLYY!!! I found a thread where people are trying to convince AWAY from vht.....that crap is garbage. It looks great for awhile but over time it fades and looks like ***. Ask me how i know? I DID IT!!! I got pissed off, stripped it, and did like these guys and added black with clear and now i have tons of people getting me to do theirs. Dont be cheap or take the easy way out......drop your lights off to a body shop, they wont charge hardly anything specially if you prep them and they will look great way longer....here is mine if you need some comparison....
