Default Repaint: The Delima

I recently purchased a low mileage 98 SS for $8k. I got it so cheap because the body is less than desirable. The Passenger door has a top-to-bottom crack and the rocker is mashed because the kid broke a sign with it. Its been keyed down both sides, has numerous dents in the quarters and has rear-ended a car and needs a front bumper cover. I found a guy who can paint it for a decent price, and it does good work. Now.. my only problem is should I paint it black, or some other color? I know you're all going to say 'its your car', but honestly I want some opinions. I know black is such a bitch to keep nice, thats my only con at this point, I love it the way it is now, looks amazing from ten feet. But I want some other owners with black car's to chime in, how do you keep it nice?

8k for it? Sounds like it had a rough life..

I'd say go for Jet Stream Blue or Cyber Grey possibly. Both would look good IMO.

Or even just the stock dark blue. I personally don't like the hassle of black although when clean it does look good..

I know you said that you didn't want any It's your car opinions but there is a plus and minus to staying black. Think about this. If you stay black you don't have to mess around with under the hood or the jams. Which will save you money. It will still look good if going black if you say this guy does a good job on it. One pain about black is that like you said Black is a bitch to keep clean and a pain in the *** to paint. What I mean by this is that black shows every imperfection. If you go to another paint you will have to deal with the jams and engine compartment. Unless you don't care. If you go lighter the paint will cover more imperfections and seem to stay cleaner. If it was me I would stay black just because I wouldn't want to deal with the jams and under the hood. It all depends really on how long you want to keep it and how much you are willing to put into it. I'm in the same boat with my car. Its blue but I don't like it. It has scratches on it and and I plan on getting a new hood for it so I mind as well do a complete color change on it. But then again I plan on keeping my car around. Remember if you really don't plan on keeping the car that long its really going to cost a arm and a leg to paint the whole car (color change that is). You probably won't get what you paid for it and what you paid for the paint job. Best of luck to you.

Keep it black man. Nothing sexier than a black SS. Use the money you save for modding.

Funny, im in the same situation with my car, it needs new paint, is already black, and those are the other two colors I'm contemplating.

Ive been trying to talk myself out of keeping it black, but deep down I think I want to leave it. And the other part is it seems a "waste" of an opportunity to be painting the entire car, only to have it look the same as it does now. Itll feel like I got my moneys worth somehow because it looks different if I change the color. I mean black looks really sleek, but a lot of little details get lost because its so reflective. I want to go Cyber Gray just because itll look awesome with a satin Berger, and black wheels that I have. I couldnt find a blue I liked in all lighting conditions, so Im leaning away from that. So I guess its down to cyber gray, or good ole black. Hmmmm...
