Default Are 4th Gen hatch lids different by year?

Reason I ask is, the very edge of the hatch on my '94 seems to overhang the sail panel by quite a bit. It would seem like the hatch isnt all the way forward, but the gaps are definitely not that big. I will take some pictures tomorrow morning, but does anyone have an idea? Accident maybe?

EDIT: Took me a while, but here are some pictures of what I am talking about:

What does this look like?

I was under the impression all 93-02 camaro hatches were the same, and all 93-02 bird hatches were the same as well.

they are the same for all 4th gens. the only difference are the spoilers. try tightening the bolts that hold the hatch on. might help.

it almost looks like the hatch is sitting open. IMO the bols need to be loosened/tightned and struts checked

Look for some damage around the hinges up to where the hatch connects to the car, thats the first place I would start lookin.

i had two firebirds and i noticed that my trans am had no real noticable gap from the taillights and decklid. where as the formula (that had not been in an accident) had a nice half to two thirds of an inch gap all the way around the lights. my trunk rubbed on the center tail light piece. so i bought some rubber washers and placed them inbetween the tailight and rear body panel to get it to line up better and to stop making the rubbing noise. only thing i can think of is my trans am was in an accident and wasn't repair properly. i know that the right door was green at one time and that i had to fix their horrible body job on the quarter. you might be able to have someone do a floor pull on it at a bodyshop but i went with the rubber washers for now. btw the gap was even on the top roof and decklid on both.

93-02 Camaro all the same hatch.

93-02 Trans Am all the same hatch.

93-02 Firebird all the same hatch.

Seems yours may have been swapped at some point or the mounting nuts came loose.

There is some "play" in the mounting holes... you might want to pull the headliner and see if you can get the hatch to slide forward by loosing the nuts inside the car.

You may need to get a friend to help you with this... to help push the hatch forward while you tighten the bolts. (Also you are probably going to have to remove the hatch support end links. They simply pop on and off. )

Also.... check the hatch bump stops... yours may be adjusted too high.

I will check and try all of that today, but if this makes sense and/or tells anyone something....even with the hatch like that, the lid seals perfectly with the bottom rubber seal on the car. It sit's on there just like I assume it would if the end didnt stick out like that.

it does make sense... the area the weather sits closes upon is quite wide and the weather stripping has a lot of vertical movement. Lots of room for error.

Also... as mentio0ned above.... the hinge could be bent... but I would try to align the hatch first since to address a bent hinge you'd have to actually take the hatch off the car.
