I paint so it really just depends on a job for an over all outside material and all 2450 for complete color change 3500 no less. Materials to cost 900 that a painters price high dollar material, but for someone to buy their own to get out 900 you would have to buy a low line of basf or dupont paint. Bottom line is if you don't have a hookup or do it your self you pay for what you get, also my prices include cutting and buffing.

the grey area would be the primer and minimal filler..IMO.
and $900 worth of materials to equal a 4500 paint job...well..you are paying for materials, the skills of the individuals doing the work, and quality aint cheap. we all know that, regardless of what it is..you get what you pay for.
IMO the quality of the work, materials, time and quality labor, should reflect the price being charged. I would personally request photos of other cars that they have done, and see if they have other peoles cars * in the process* and you can see how they are doing the work. Find out what kind of spray guns, paints, clears, that they use so they dont charge you top end and use Kmart paint...

So these $2,500-$4,000 paint jobs are just a mask and go kinda thing. I hate tape lines, overspray, and unprofessional jobs. Sure, you can get a car scuffed and shot for $2500...but that simply isnt to MY standards...not that anyone was asking...These higher dollar jobs incude removing the bumpers, headlights, tail lights, rear panel, fenders, doors, hood, gutting the doors, removing trim, and purchasing new emblems, removing glass...then a quality wet sand and buff. Then nearly all body shops use flat rate: a bumper is around 1.5 hours each, fender .75, taking glass out 2.0...and at $46/hr it adds up.

not just a mask and go, depends on the shops overhaed cost as to how much they have to charge. my overhead is lower than most shops around here so i can cut the labor rates down abit and make they same money. overall you get what you pay for if they have 40 hrs in it and only charge $50 an hour right there is $2000. and to do a simple scuff and shot the right way by taking the car apart, sanding it, masking it, painting it, sand and buff, then put back together, your gonna have way more than 40 hrs in it

and if you think someones time and skill is not worth $4000 dollars then dont have them do it, but wait a year and see what it looks like and tell me which is more hilarious a $4000 paint job or a $2000 paint job that needs redone

Yeah the only 2 places in town I would let touch mine and I know they use top notch stuff and take the car apart.
1 was 5700 and the other was 6500 soyou get what you pay for.

if you want a good ballpark range look between 500-10,000 it all depends on who you know. what kind of paint they use, and they level of attention to detail. ive known the best and worst and worked with the best and worst. some guys will do cheap price but amazing work and the shitty people charge a million. but like motors and trannys and everything else. you get what you pay for. so keep that in mind. make sure you see other cars the person has done and take a look around a shop. make sure its clean, remember when paint and **** is wet even dust particles will stand out in the finished product. and black is a mother ****** to make perfect i havent been able to spray black to well. but alot of the show of paint is from wet sanding and buffing at the end. and your prep work i hope some of that helps ya

what's everybodie's thoughts on just getting the front end painted and having the fenders doors and rear swirl removed, polished professionally to bring out some shine? Only thing is will the car look matched up or not with the front end being brand new paint. I've just always been impressed with what detailers can do with the right compound and rotary buffers.

I paid 5k to have completly blown apart down to a pretty much a shell. all the parts were painted off the car, assembled then the stripes were laid, then the hand laid pinstripes. It was Red and black tho. Then the last was cleared. The door jams and the deck lid jams were painted as well. It was very well done. Every stage was wet sanded, in the end there was no orange peel to the paint at all. BUt you get what you pay for, so me spending 5k on a paint job to have it turned out the way it did, I will say it was well worth it.

Also keep in mind that even a **** Maaco job looks good in a picture on the forum. Someone will post up a picture of their $500 paint job, it'll get a whole page of "wow looks great" responses. Then you see it in person and think, "Who threw up all over this thing"?
Paint jobs are not black and white.... there's a whole lot of grey area in between.
