Default Need Opinions

I just picked up a 99 TA for cheap. It needs some body work and a short block, but the price was right.

Below are some pics of the drivers quarter and door. I have a line on a complete door so that is no biggie. I am wanting to know what the general idea is on the quater. Pull it, duraglass it and roll, or replace it? I have a buddy who had the same type of damage that pulled and smoothed his and it looked great when finished. I just want opinions on the right way to go about getting it taken care of.

i would get it replaced. cuz even if you do get it fixed, you still are gonna see some small imperfections in the paint. like you are gonna see some swirl marks and some waves and that is a pretty big dent.

the point of body work is so you don't see swirls and paint imperfections. If you get a good body man that can be fixed. I'd look into getting it replaced though, might be cheaper or the same. but I think it can be repaired.

I would not cut it out. That isnt that bad. Just looks bad. If you cut it out. You run the risk of having underbody rust come through. bang it out and glass it. This is my opinion.

A good body tech could fix that....but most would replace it. I write estimates for a body shop and for that to be replaced it would be around 2k....if you have it fixed it would probably be about half that.

Repair it. I wouldn't cut the car up just for that small amount of damage. Are you going to try and repair it yourself? I can offer up some help if you are? Back in the day, before I had a welder, you can get a pieced of sheetmetal, screw it to the edge of the quarter panel that is pushed in with self tapping sheetmetal screws, now borrow a pull clamp or cut a hole in your pieced of metal and pull it with a come-a-long. That should pull the edge of the quarter panel back flush with the edge of the door. Use a hammer to stress relieve the surrounding metal as you pull. Now pull the tire off and hammer out the edge of the wheelhouse that is pushed in to relieve stress in that area too. Now hire yourself a "paintless dent repair" guy to finish pushing it out as best as possible. Now attempt to bodywork yourself or take it to a bodyshop to finish the repair and save yourself hundreds of dollars!! MOST shops would estimate to replace the quarter panel.

That's one that could go either way. Fix it, and have a panel wiped in filler and duraglass, or replace it, and have welds across a seam under filler, unless you replace the roof skin. Either way a skilled tech will yield good results. It'll be considerably more to replace it. I bet you can get it pulled and put in primer for $500.

that 1/4 can be fixed[no problem by a bodyman] a couple of welded pull tabs and a pin welder and maybe put small hole in wheel house and pick alot of it out with minimal body filler. with the glues and adhesive you can get now a days would almost say the door could be repaired as well. im only saying that because ive been a bodyman for 35 + years. good luck with your fix however you decide to do it ken

The body shop next door to my Turbo Shop quoted me $450-500 to pull it fill it and prime it. As for as the door I found a replacment for $250.

Do these prices seem reasonable?

That sounds about right. After you get it put in primer let it sit in the sun every day for a week or two before it gets painted. The longer you wait the less obvious the repair will be later due to the repair material shrinking. Good luck with it!

cut a 6" diameter hole from the inside, knock out the dent, clean up the rest, roll the fenders and call it good. . .

As it stands right now that is the plan. I am looking at mini tubbing the car so getting to the back side of the dent shouldnt be an issue. Just trying to decide what the build plan is gonna consist of and cost me at the end of the day.
