Short story is I had my car at a friend's shop for over 2 months and now he tells me the car is not done (or was never touched) and the decals he's been ordering are all wrong for the flames I want going up the hood. I'm out of time and patience with this guy since I have a big race in 2 weeks, so I'm going to pick up the car today, and my $1,000 worth of green and silver paint. The paint I have is from English Color and it's a 3-step process. After this race, I need someone (I can drive the car to you within 2-3 hours near Dallas, Tx) to paint this car in a TIMELY manner (it should not take longer than 1 week to paint a car) and let me know how much it will cost. I also need proof of your prior work if you have photos. Please PM me if you can assist me. Much thanks...
OR: How difficult it is REALLY to paint a car? I know about the dust-free room and I am willing to take my time if I can save and do it myself. As tedious and particular I am about building motors so you can eat off them I think if you want to learn something bad enough on your own, you can. Please share any ideas how you taught yourself to paint and how to make it turn out right and look great! Apparently if you want things done, you have to start doing them yourself. Kudos for any advice, I'm frustrated with the guy at this point.

paint work is an art and has to be learned by trial and error if you want to do it yourself I would start with something little and practice you have to realize that when it comes time to clear your car you can’t just start spraying at it you have to start at your bumper go to your left panel than hood then right panel than left door than the roof than the right door always keeping your leading edge wet so you don’t get a dry spots, and dry spots are worse than runs because they can’t be fixed and runs can.
And have you even thought about how to prep the car you can’t just spray over the shiny paint that is there every bit of shine has to be scuffed or sanded off and then you have to clean the car and tape it up and a bad tape job will wreck the job
but if you still want to try to do this your self i can try to help
how much work does the car need to be ready for paint?
what kinda place do you have to spray the car? compresser? gun?
1000 for paint is nuts if it is just the base coat even if it is a candy that is nuts and green is a cheap color **** even with clear that is expensive
or you can just fly me down there ill show you how to do it start to finish pay me and fly me back

I have a few cars I need painted to include my 2000 Z28. When I get back from Iraq, i plan on tearing it down and doing a garage job of gunmetal shade of grey. I've painted a motor cycle before, and it was ALOT of work.
The bike was stripped down, and all the "shiney" was sanded down. Then (while we thought it was perfect) there were alot of stress cracks that had to be fiberglassed. parts needed primer too. A 250 dollar budget went to 400 bucks within a week. In the end we had a midnight blue with pearl paint job that was amazing.
If your gonna do it yourself you probably need more than a week!
