Question What is a quality paint job like ?

Ok guys so I am repainting my NBM SS and I dont know nothing about paint so I dont want to pay alot of money for a crappy job.

What kind of questions should I ask when I take it to shops for quotes ?

How was the stock paint shot ? Is it a base color and a clear over it ?

What kind of paints should I ask for ? meaning brand. and What about Clears ? Or does this even matter ?

Thanks for any help.

the brand depends on how much money you wanna spend such as ppg or dupont ect. ask alot of questions such as exp., knowledge business wise and ask to see cars they paint with a tour of the shop

STAY AWAY FROM PRODUCTION SHOPS like (Maaco) and such!!!! Their prices are very good but their work will only last about a year. Remember that 90% of a good paint job is in the prep. Production shops want to get you in and get you out and their prep is minimal. Any shop can make your car look great using cheap product, but how long will it last you? You will pay more going with a quality shop, but you’ll reap the benefits as you won’t have to have your car painted next year. Go by word of mouth and not so much by what the writer tells you. He’ll tell you what ever you want to hear. As far as product goes theirs a lot of good paints and clears out there. You being in Cali I’m sure they will be using water based paints and clears? But what ever paint they use you really want a good high solid clear with good UV protection to help with color bleed. With me in Florida, the EPA hasn’t hit us YET with the water base, so I can’t really advise you in that area? Sorry. Hope this helps?? Good luck

A few simple things to ask are
- do they warranty thier work
- can you see there shop, your looking for a clean organized shop
- make sure you can just drop in and check on your car anytime without them knowing
- when you check in and look at your car ask questions about what thier doing
- word of mouth is great, so ask if anyone knows thier work
- ask a lot of questions, if they go into detail that's great, if they dance around the question that's not so great

all in all hope this helps you out and good luck

remember you get what you pay for!!! If the deal is too good to be true then it prob is.

Check around to see where insurance companies always go.

thats exactly what i got out of the shop i went to. very happy with them. main deal maker/breaker- warranty!! my shop used ppg paints and gave a lifetime warranty on the job. i'll be going back there in a few months to get a full repaint job on the next car i get too.

the shop is in vallejo. i've been to 2 shops here. Klimisch Inc.- a great shop, and their prices reflect that. my car went there 4 years ago to get some stuff fixed up and painted. their prices are fairly high, but you'll love the work

the shop i went to recently to get some work done was a little lower on their prices, and i was recommended to check them out. definitely happy with the work. they do repaints (same color) for around $2500, and i think different color repaints start at like $3500. (prices based on memory from like a year ago).

i'm happy with thir work, and seeing other cars that they were doing, they do good work in my opinion. once my cars are sold and i get my next car i'll be returning to them for more work and a full repaint.

where are you located?
