Default 30th Decal Help!

Hey guys I got a 30th car and I need to replace the hood stripes and the Roof stripes.. They have sun damage and i got a good deal on a full Decal package for my car. I was just wondering if anyone had some tips on getting them off Putting the new one's on or anything common knowledge? Anything would be GREAT! I have asked 4 decal places In the city i live in and all of them will not do it they say it is too much and work and they are all asking 10k to do it. SO I have decided to do it my self. Thanks for any input I will post pictures if you guys need me too thanks again.

Mitch.

10k? As in $10,000 to pull a couple stripes off and put the new ones on? You can't be serious...

No word of a lie Two places quoted us and said $10,000 dollars... I have the decals also so I have no idea why it would be so pricey.. Also the other two places said, They would not even consider doing it for any amount of money.. I really do not know why they are so Prickish about the whole thing i thought that was what they did... Haha.. I will Totally try the heat gun tomorrow wish me luck.

did they think you wanted a new repaint also.
I do not recommend a heat gun,,, some are actually hot and will strip your paint off if your not careful.
its your car tho,,, but 1st thing is dont ask an autobody shop to do it,, its not really their sort of work anyhow,,, go to a decal vehicle graphics or sign place... they normally do body wraps and should have more experience at removing it without messing the paint up. They will also install the new ones.
Problem is if you do it yourself and your old stripe keeps breaking apart and doesnt come off in one pull its going to take forever. Mark the position of the old decal with tape so the new one goes on exactly as the old.
As for putting the new one on,,, id clean the car well make sure all sticky stuff is off. Wet down the hood with a spray bottle (warm water w/ drop or 2 of dish soap). Also start to unpeal the stripe from backing paper, while spraying it down too,,, lay on the hood,, that way you can slide it around to position in the right spot and use a proper squeegee starting in the middle of the stripe going outwards (go one way only) to get all the water out,, don't squeegee backwards or you'll get bubbles trapped and wrinkle the decal... let dry for a 24hrs then peel off the transfer paper and enjoy.
I did a hood bird on my '81 the same way by myself and it came out perfect.

Wow, That's just not right. I ran and worked at a few vinyl shops and would do what you're asking for about $300. Hell a full wrap would only be around 4k. Just crazy to ask that much.

nonsense. not that hard.

a heat gun (used with common sense) and a bottle of laquer thinner and the old vyinals will litterally crumble. there is a place that makes a small plastic thing called "the little chipper" it wont harm the paint. make sure all the adhesive is off and then buff the paint under the vyinals. the simply apply the new ones.

It's easy to do, I have a body shop and wouldn't have charged any more than $200

heat gun wont hurt the paint if you have common sense.. in which assuming you do for not paying the price they wanted you to.. ive personally done many vehicals and i would do it for around 250-300.. its not hard to get the decal off its the glue.. but done right with a heat gun it wont take long. i always pull decals off at a 90 degree angle and the glue typically comes with the sticker/decal.
let us know how it works out
