Primer-Paint-Help Please
I was detailing my car and looks like something happened to my bumper over the winter. Looks like the part of the bumper that goes under the car well some fissures developed in the paint.
I can see that there was cracking and clearly there are white areas (car is white) where the original paint is showing through. Think my mistake was not letting the primer dry at least 24 hours before applying the paint. The ouside looked fine it is the area under the car that looks well awful.
So put the car on ramps taped it all off and am redoing the CETA. I did alot of reading and research and I sanded everything down...my best choice was going with the 320 grit it did a great job...nice smooth starting sruface. No problems there.
K, I applied primer yesterday and when I go under the car still see these high low spots on this piece under the car...now as I see it I have 2 choices:
I can continue making multiple passes with primer and 400 to 600 grit sand paper to try to build up that area (have every grade of sandpaper too) or I can use a filler...like a spot putty..I hesitate to use a spot putty because there is no damage there (no pits, chips, holes, no damage to the bumper) this is just highs and lows in the primer...If I use spot putty I may have a cracking issue again. Adding another chemical may not be the best choice. Maybe I should use a finer grade of sand paper?
So may be just better off applying more primer and sanding until those areas are filled. I can be patient - but also the temperature is dropping it is like 48 here and the humidity is at 50%...any higher and I will have to stop. So I am alos kind of fighting the elements here.
Car is garaged....so I can turn on heaters..K, I would like to see this turn out right this time.
So was just wondering what anyone up here might suggest...
