1998 Trans Am WS6....bright red....looked at the STICKY and found Bright Rally Red, 81U/WA8774. I don't think thats mine from 1998. All my paperwork from back than says Bright Red, not Rally. And I know some red 1998 TA's looked like a different shade than mine did.
Also, my car is getting repainted next week, whats the best paint and clear cloat to use. Hopefully they use the good stuff, if not I'll tell them to.....
How many layers of clear is good.........I hear different shops saying different numbers.
Thanks.

the 81u is the paint code if thats what you found inside the the spare tire cover, ya know the little sticker with all the numbers on it ya that one
the "wa number" 8774
in the color books we find the gm part, look for the code and the wa number or now we just go to the computer and do the same thing, it could be different wording of the red
if you go with ppg it could be called torch red, but then with spies hecker its call flame red, and the amount of coats of clear is really about 3 is the max, 4 your pushing your luck

There was only one shade of bright red for 1998, which is option 81U.
There was another red in '98, called red-orange metallic. I beleive the RPO for this was 96U. This is NOT a bright red though, it's very similar to sunset orange metallic.
