Default How can I protect my rear bumper from my exhaust?

I have a 1997 TA that I just recently had painted white. I know after time my rear bumper will discolor where the bumper is formed around the exhaust tips.My question is what can I do to stop this? One idea I came up with was use Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film from 3M, but I am not sure if it can hold up to the heat from the exhaust.

Yes, but in CA I don't think it's legal.

I just got the TA so I was not sure, but I see a lot of ricers with discolored bumpers. I am going to go down to the place that sales that 3m clear stuff, and see what they have to say.

As long as the car is tuned and not running overly rich you'll be fine

Yes it is tuned and just passed CA smog with the hot cam. But I am not close to over 400rwhp like you are putting down with the hot cam. I am A4 with stock lt1 and I only manage 325rwhp

That's what I thought, but with really nice heads it might be possible to put those numbers down with a M6 383 and hot cam. But nice numbers either way, it must be a blast to drive. I am going to wash it every week and keep a eye out for color change around the exhaust.

Also look at where your exhaust tips end. If they're tuck back some, you'll blow more hot gas onto the bumper than if they're pushed out and more flush with the rest of the bumper. A muffler shop could adjust em in no time.
