...to an old problem. Sail panel paint bubbling. I'm not convinced that the ONLY solution is to rip off the old one and replace it with a new one with better adhesive. Would love to see some more "creative" shoestring-budget solutions that aren't tacky and keep you from having to re-paint on a regular basis.
"Search" and "Google" are failing me so far. LS1Tech will not.

well you need to be convinced... there is no other solution unless you want to repaint your roof every couple years.... just deal and replace it

Fiberglass itself is porus just like the SMC used to mold the OEM roof .

Had mine replaced 2yrs ago, the only fix as everyone is saying is to replace and prep the new one correctly which GM did not do. My body guy showed me the underside of the old roof which was not sealed prior to installation which allowed the glue to eventually come thru. You must seal the underside prior and use the correct glue when installing new roof. Good luck, btw total cost to do mine including roof 1800.00, just my opinion if your keeping the car do it right the first time.

I just found this out about 2 weeks ago, I was like "man, the guy before me had to use a lot of touch up paint to cover these small dings" and a friend at work looked concerned and told me what it was. needless to say I was not very happy. Tried calling a dealer since there is a TSB, but they never called back. oh well. It looks horrible, but I don't have $2k to fix it, I have other priorities first. Oh and the guy at the body shop where I got a quote to fix a mark on the front bumper or repaint the car told me he'd never seen that in over 15 years of being a body shop manager quote "i'd just sand it and paint over it" to which I responed "Well that just isn't going to work, but thanks for the quote". Needless to say he won't be touching my car.

Try Gordans Body Shop in Stewardstown Pa., they just did my roof and did a very nice job. Just ask for Kelly.

^ I told my friend and his dad that the roof piece needs to be replaced. They didn't believe me, had theirs sanded, and painted. Sure enough a month later it is bubbled again.

very nice. mine looked AWFUL so I sanded it down, put a thin layer of bondo over the whole thing, and sprayed it with dupli-color a temporary fix. it bubbled through within days.

now I have the whole roof section from a wrecked TA sitting in my back yard that I'll be taking the panel off of, I sawzalled it where it met the rear quarters and now just have to separate the SMC panel.

Looks to me like some solutions are hit or miss. BUT, I agree with everyone that says replace it. Fix it the right way the first time (REPLACE IT) - pretty self explanitory

No way it should cost 2g`s to replace and paint, if that's what you are quoted I would look at someplace else to do the work.
