Default How much to fix this????

I finally got my hands on an oem ram air hood and FedEx basicly destroyed it during shipping. Around the edges of the hood in the pictures you can see the damage that was caused. Do anyone know what a reasonable price is to get something like this fixed? Also i am worried about the repairs cracking over time from opening and closing the hood. Is this likley to happen due to the fact the damage is around the edges of the hood where the fiberglass is difficult to build up? Thanks

Did that include paint? I was quoted at $850 to fix the damage, install it and repaint it red to match my car.

That sounds like a pretty close estimate because they have to figure repair time and they have to trim out the underside of the hood and then paint the outside and I figured they would add blend time but im guessing they didn;t bc of the amount you said they gave you. Depending on the age and shape of the paint on the fenders you might wanna have them blended bc red tends to lose alot of its color pigment over the years unless the car stays garaged alot. All depends on the shape of them

exactly. GM red (any red actually) will usually match paneled up beside the original paint, unless the paint is worn out and had a rough life. then it will need blended. $850 seems about right. maybe a tad high, but pictures dont show all

I agree with both previous posts. Reds fade and dependinging on the pigments, pearls, and flakes used in the mix ratio it can turn into a different color altogether. 850 does seem a little high, but they may be including the blend of color and clear.

Best way is to go to a shop in your area that has a good reputation. Do your research. Ask questions like what are the certifications they hold ; i-car, ASE, and others. Make sure the name on the certificate is the person that works there. Ask what brand paint they use. If its a high end PPG line or Croma Base expect to pay a little more than shopline or nason. Find out how long they have been in business and how long there employees have been there.

Yea he said that included paint for top and underside of hood bad blending if needed. I have brought my others cars to him in the past when I got rear ended and my brother got his corner panel replaced and painted by him also. I am more concerned about the strength of the hood after this is all done. Has anyone had experience with getting a hood replaced on such a fine edge?

The strength of the hood should be actually stronger than before if they do the repair right. We do fiberglass work at our shop all the time and todays resin gets hard as hell!!!! Just make sure they are experienced with fiberglass work and you should be fine!!!

Absolutely correct. Great advice/ reminder. If you do notice damage have the driver acknowledge it. If he/she will..

The hood was actually damaged during shipment and FedEx knew about it. I was tracking it the FedEx website and it said "exception: damaged in transit, return to shipper" when it was a town over from my house. The package did not require a signature so the FedEx guy left it at the front door. The hood did have one little scuff on the front that i knew about a purchased it that way so i thought that might have been what they were refering too. I called FedEx back and they said that i would either have to ship it back to the shipper and then have one of them come out to determine the damage and then the shipper would get a check for what the hood was worth and I would only be refunded the money that I paid for it. I really wanted the hood so there was no way i was shipping it back and never seeing it again.
