Default Firebird rebuild/repaint GO!

So around august the car started to look a little worn out and ragged, so I started the tear down and repaint prep stuff. I'm also doing some custom things that I don't see around my area to make it be unique. I'll upload pics and progress as I go.

Ok so the car started out as your standard issue black formula t top car. It ended up being pretty beat looking over this last year so I started tearing it down for paint. These are a few of the progress pics...

Sorry it's a little dark, but that's the first step. Trans Am style hatch and spoiler. I think it looks alot better than the formula/v6 one.

Starting to sand on the car. Glocklimited09 was right, the factory panels are stupid wavy........

Doing more of the sanding. It's coming along quite nicely.

And this is how it currently stands. Still got a decent amount of work to do, but it's getting there.

More than likely, There's not many other colors besides cyber gray that I really like. If it is black though, it won't be the factory code black. Either house of kolors or that sikkens black.

I saw a pic on this forum somewhere of black paint with a heavy aluminum flake that looked TOTALLY badass! How much work did you have to put into sanding the ocean effect out of the door panels? I absolutely HATE how they look in my mirror. I gotta do all that same work with my Trans Am too but it's gonna be a while before I can start. Great work you've done so far!

You don't even wanna know.... it's not measured in hours.... it's measured in DAYS...... and thanks! It'll be worth it in the end. Yours may not be quite so bad, mine was..... rough when I started.

keep up the good work ... take your time . the best way to repaint a car
is to remove as much stuff as possible .. mirrors ,moldings ect . almost
going down to a rolling shell .to achieve a nice paint job . im thinking of
fitting a trans am wing to my bird too .

Hahaha sorry bout the lack of updates, weather here is kindof slowing me down. Got most of the car sanded and now I'm starting to correct a few knicks and dings. I'll try to have pics up in the next few days.

Ok question: how does the outer window moulding thing on the top of the door come off? Is it just held on with adhesive or is it actually bolted on? I'd like to get that off but I just don't know how.

It's held on with clips. You have to take the side view mirrors off, and I think you have to take the mirror mount off too if I remember right. It has been a while since I did it. Just pull up on it and it will release.

Ok and the mirror bracket is just held on by a couple of bolts I'm assuming? It would be great to get those off once the car gets painted. Does the glass have to come out too or no?

Wow lack of updates hahaha.... Sorry bout that, been busy. Time for pics!!!!

First time it's seen daylight since I parked it in August. Most of the blocking and sanding are about done by this point.

this corner of the hatch needed some fiberglass repair and rebuilding. Got some short strand fiberglass and went to work. Once it's painted, you won't know it was ever damaged.

Another angle of the fiberglass repair..... Ignore the mustang behind it. That's my wife's car.

The only real dent on the car, and I didn't want to try and pull it being so small, so i filled it in.

Driver's side finished. Those little triangles by the sail panel break when you try to remove them. I gotta order new ones eventually.......

What you don't see is the finished passenger side and some various parts removed. Those should be coming off here soon and hopefully painted within the next month.
