Default Maaco Paint

My front end conversion on my bird is nearly done and it is about to be time for paint. From what I understand, if you get one of the better jobs, Maaco isn't all that bad at laying down paint. I plan on doing all of the body and prep work myself. Any input?

Depends on the shop and how much the painter cares. If he's just doing it like the other 10 cars he painted that day then don't expect much. I had one car painted at Maaco and told the painter that if it looked decent I would give him some extra cash. I did the prep and body myself and it turned out decent for the money.

Each Maaco is independently owned. Some are good and some are bad. Go to your local one and ask to see completed cars and references of cars they have done and that will give you an idea how they work.

Both of these guys hit the nail on the head.

1. Offer the painter $$ on the side. It should make them slow down and do it right.

2. Make sure previous cars looked good when they were painted, and if you can see if they still look good.

If you are doing the body work your self to the point where they just tape it off and spray I think Maaco will do a good job.

Maaco is such a touchy subject, haha. Like others have said each one is independently owned, so do your research on the one you're looking into. Also, Maaco seems to be a spray and pray type place. They just lay down paint on what you bring in and you end up praying that it stays on. I've known guys who have done their own prep work, trailered their cars down there, partially disassembled them on the Maaco lot, done their own tape jobs for crisp lines, and had a fantastic looking paint job that has lasted. Yet I've also known guys who have done good prep work and had their Maaco paint come off in car washes...... It seems to be a hit or miss.

I went to maico a few years back and plan to go again after my front end swap is complete. The one I originally went to sucked ***** but ive scoped out a few good ones in the area that have a good rep, definately do that..if you do your own prep work you should be fine. Im not made of money and you cant beat the price for a paint job on an older car.

Default depends on the shop

I only payed about 800 bucks to spray the entire car, and to fix some small dents. They also said i had a lifetime re-spray. It had some small runs on the hood, but I didn't mind. If I didn't have a black car I would go to them, and I don't trust them to paint my fiberglass hood.

Wow man that looks really good for sure. Ive only heard horror stories and more from there. One of the ones Ive heard was painting over the rust in areas they thought the owner wouldnt look for as they where in tight areas and didnt want to remove body panels. Id never go there ever

wow I would be extremely pissed, but you have to find the right shop. I think i'm going to get my SS hood painted at a better shop, and have maaco switch body panels out for me. I've got another project i need painted, that I don't feel like paying an arm and leg for.

so to OP i would say check out maaco but look at their customer's cars, because they usually post pictures in the lobby of all the work they've done.

The issue is they use crap paint. I have seen some maaco jobs that look decent, some are good at laying it on. However, it will not last, especially if they did the prep work.

I work for a dealership and when we need to have panels repaired and repainted we take the cars to maaco. Let me tell you, about 80% of the time we have to take the car back to get repainted cause they did such a shitty job. If there was any chips they would be ten times more noticable after a repaint from them also they left paint bubbles everywhere! I live in Ohio so I'm sure maaco's are different all over but are's does a terrible job I would'nt even let them paint my beater. If you want a good paint job take it to the dealer. I have had my front bumper repainted at a chevy dealer and my friend had his goat that was side swiped painted at another chevy dealer and they both did a awesome job. Price wasn't to bad I think it was $130 for my front bumper maybe less.
