Default Trans Am hatches?

I have a '00 Firebird, but really want a Trans Am hatch with the spoiler. Are the 93-97 trans am hatches the same as the 98-02 hatches?

Yes you could use a 93-97 one for a 98-02, only the front end got a big face change in the different years really.

edit: they also weigh a bit more than the base/formula hatches. Cause of high rise spoiler.

K thanks for the info!
So since it will fit, I'm about to buy a 96 Trans Am hatch for my 2000 Firebird. Any idea how much this will cost to be painted?

K, I picked up the new hatch and there is a small chip in the fiberglass, about 1/2 inch long and at the deepest point, maybe 1cm deep. What are my options for fixing this? Can I just use a body filler to even it out and then have it painted/clear coated over? I can get pics if needed.

Yes u can use filler, sand with some 80 grit, fill in then sand filler with 80,then a skim coat of glazing putty, sand putty with 180,prime,n bock primer with 320,if it's small enough u can just use putty,or if you can get the filler on and sand without pinholes u can finish filler with 180 n then prime

fyi, you may have o use the striker plate off your stock hatch, the ls hatch striker plate is off centered.

Upon further inspection, I found that on the hatch itself, near the corner, there is a small part where the fiber glass is cracked and wiggly. Can I fix this myself? Or is this best left to a body shop?

It's the same general procedure you would use fixing a knick or chip. I had to do the same to the hatch I bought. took a couple hours but you can't really tell it's damaged now, other than the glazing putty color cause it's still needing paint.

you can, just make sure you use the correct products

i.e. fiberglass resin will not adhere properly to smc surfaces so careful

Well I found out my friends dad works for an automotive restoration company in ATL so I dropped it off to him and he quoted half the price of what a local body shop wanted so by the end of the week it should be done. Thanks for all the info and help
