I thought about that, and ultimately I probably will do that. But I would like to save most of the money right now. I was also thinking about getting a GTO or a C5 eventually, maybe even a G35.

For now I might just have my car fixed inexpensively and use it for a while. I don't have time to part it out right now.

UPDATE:
So some good and bad news. Bad news is the car is totaled. Estimator said $5800 worth of damage. The good news is after waiting a while, they said they would give me $6400 for the car. Even better is that they'll give $5800 if I keep the car.

I have been trying to get estimates for it. I looked on craigslist for retired body guys and mobile body people and sent them pics. I got estimates ranging from $550-$900 from three different places. Anyone have experience with those kinds of guys?
Can you explain how you would get $6400? When I wrecked my truck, the damage was estimated at $5800. The value of the truck was about $7200. If I had opted for them to total it out, I would have gotten $7200-$5800 for the repairs leaving me with only $1600 and no truck. Does that make sense? I have State Farm. There was no way they were going to give my $7200 eventhough that was the value. I opted for them to fix it. I paid my $1000 deductible and they paid $4800 for the repairs.

I thought when a car is totaled, they pay out the value of the car period, and they don't deduct the damage.

Can you explain what the collector insurance is and where its from?

I had similar damage a couple of years ago and got a similar deal. I took the money, kept the car (removed my mods), and sold the car to a friend for $2.5K and he had the damage fixed. He got a car cheap, I got $6K+the value of the salvage car, $8.5K and that my friend will get you a very decent LS1 car that you may be able to use your mods, or sell them as well. A bad day turned into a very decent result. I love my 'new' car! See if you can negotiate a higher value for your wreck, then ask for the title. I got an extra $2-300 just by asking along with citing some examples of other similar cars for sale.

I'm not sure but that is what state farm said. I got a letter today and it shows it in writing as well. $6393.35 was the final amount.

Maybe they were trying to full a fast one on me? I really didn't want to have my truck totaled since I've had it since highschool, and it has never given me any mechanical problems. I kept it and gave it to my parents. The damage was minimal. Just the bumper, radiator, a fender. I rearended someone at about <15mph, but a early 90's F150 with a metal bumper. I had a small Toyota Tacoma with a plastic bumper.

So this is what I ultimately did.

-Bought back car & got $5800 from insurance
-Took out my GTO seats and WS6 hood to sell
-Sold rest of the car as is for $2300

I also bought a 2002 Infiniti I35 to tide me over for a while. Only cost me $2750

Whoopee!

Thanks for the offer man. I appreciate it but I've already sold the car. I got an infiniti in the mean time. It certainly could use a repaint though lol
