Default Clearcoat question

Ok...I have a 95 Z-28 that I am repainting. It is yellow BC/CC. Some of the CC is peeling. Do I need to completely remove the CC or just blend and seal then prime?

you will have to feather edge out the clear coat otherwise if your going to prime any it will peel off just like your clear is doing... best thing to do is da the whole car with 180 and primer so you start with a good foundation

Thanks guys. I'm actually covering the yellow with a dark metallic grey. So just smooth out the areas where the clear is peeling and prime?

Best advice yet. DA or sandblast the car down to the factory primer and then prime the car. For all the work it takes to do any paint job, it's best to do it right the first time. You will thank yourself five years down the road when your paint still looks good. In not taking the old clear coat off you are taking a chance that the paint you're putting over top of it may not last very long. If the old clear coat is peeling in one spot, it probably means other areas are starting to weaken too. JMHO

180 is a rough grit to just take off clear coat, that will leave deep scratches that later u still need to hit up with finer and prob have to primer..

best thing to do imo is hit it up with 220 all of it u will take off all clear and even some paint, is rough enough to take off unwanted clear and not leave very deep scratches..
after the 220 go to 320 then primer the needed areas, and hit it up with 400 dry or wet and you will be ready to seal...

this is the thread of the ws6 i painted...
