I like the look of the shaved bird on the front of the firebirds, but i didn't want to spend a lot of money on buying the part that is sold by one of the sponsors. If i used a dremel to cut out the bird in the plate, what is the best way to fix the big opening? I was going to try to do as much of the work myself, and then take it to a body shop to fine tune it and paint it.

That's pretty slick. I wonder what it would look like if the entire bird filler area was smoothed over (ie completely smooth lower front bumper cover). I'll have to see if someone could Photoshop that idea.
For your needs, I wonder if you could cut out the bird and epoxy the cut-out pieces back into place on the back side of the filler along with a scrap piece of body plastic. Then, use fiberglass, sand, and paint.

i filled the front bumper holes (when u remove grill) on my last Z28 with a 2part flexible epoxy, forgot the brand but it was like $50 a tube, and that **** will stick to anything. After sanding the epoxy down i finished with poly-flex.
You just gotta prep the surface so it the epoxy can grip it, I used a dremel rough sanding bit.
I wouldnt use fiberglass on a flexible *** front bumper like that, that ***** too rigid
