Great choice on clearcoat! I work for Sherwin Williams automotive as assistant manager and we sell the crap out of that cc950! I assume that you didn't use ultra7000 base just because you shot straight black?

You have a lot of time invested into that paint job, and it looks like it paid off. If you ever tackle a project like this again i would maybe ask the jobber/store to borrow a SATA or Devilbiss HVLP gun. Our reps always have demo guns that we loan out for people to try. The right gun really helps especially when spraying clear.

How did you like the paint system overall? Dimension is little less user friendly than ultra700 because of the way it reduces. Ultra is 1 to 1 where as dimension is 2 to 1, I like using the ultra base because it is so user friendly. It is much easier for inexperience painters to mix.

I would never take on a project of this level with something that I cared about as much as my car. I give you major props for taking it all the way, redoing, and getting things correct. From what I can tell the results are extremely nice!

There's a local SW where I live so I chose them so I could actually talk to someone about the product and get some advice. As for spraying, I really have nothing to compare it to but it did seem to spray like you would expect.

I'm happy with choosing the SW line and I wasn't willing to spend the extra $ on the ultra because the quality of the base is irrelevant as long as it's the right color only the clear matters (according to my jobber).

I think she was standing on the curb. But I think she is almost 6ft tall and my car is lowered too.

What kind of air compressor did you use when spraying the car? Right now my car is in primer. Me n my buddy did it with Duplicolor rattle cans n it actually looks amazing. I'm kinda hesitant to do the color in rattle cans but i only have a 26 gallon compressor?

I used a 30 gal. Can't remember the cfm. It was something like 5.5-6.5 @ 90psi. 26 should be fine but you will have to do it only a couple panels at a time. I did my car in 3 sets and had to wait a couple of times to let the compressor catch up to keep the correct psi. Just make sure to consistently check you gun's regulator to make sure there's no pressure drop. Also, don't expect to get results like I had with rattle can primer. I had probably 100+ hours in sanding flat the primer that I shot before I did color. But good luck and if you have any other Q's feel free to ask. Let's keep this thread around for a while lol

Great friggin' job. IDK about you, but, while I was going through rebuilding & painting the body of our 66 Galaxie (just finishing up) it really gave me a great respect for the guys who do this professionally. Am surprised that they don't have muscles on top of muscles, LOL. It's hard f'ckn work.

Again, great job & thanks for posting.

You can't buy them from GM anymore, but you can get new ones from 6LE for $600 for fiberglass or $900 for carbon fiber. IMO it's DEFINITELY NOT worth the money. Best choice is find one at a junk yard and remove the entire roof with a sawzall then take it home and go at it applying heat to the bottom and using a hammer, putty knife, and wire saw. It took me ~8hours to remove it so it's no cake walk, but it's worth it. Then you can have it painted/installed by someone else. If you wanted to save more $, remove your old one yourself and install the newly painted one yourself too.
