As you can see, the paint on my cars hood is cracked. Is there anyway to fix this without repainting it??

checked paint can only be fully fixed by repainting.

Don't waste your time. You won't be able to make it look any better. Repaint is your only option.

With that much cracking you would be better off chemically stripping (aircraft stripper) than trying to sand it. With sanding you run the risk of warping the panel or not getting all of the cracks out.

Then how would he do it properly? I don't think you're helping the OP much by just saying "wrong" and not explaining. That, and I'd like to know

I have used aircraft stripper many times and the stuff is badass. I found it to be quite the opposite "takes a little to do a lot" simply buy the can from autozone and get a buch of throw away paint brushes, pour some in a METAL container as it will eat through plastic. Brush it on the applied area you want to strip by no means let it get on ANYTHING you do not want the paint to come off of (remove the hood from the car) let it sit for about 10 minutes. At this point you should see the paint start to bubble then remove it with a plastic scraper or brillow pad and repeat as necessary. If the hood has multiple coats of paint on it you may need to coat it more than once. I have used this stuff on aluminum wheels, body panels, and wood products.

^ Coming from an individual that HAS used it! The only thing I will add is: It helps the stripper penetrate better if you open up the paint using 36 grit at a very slow speed with a "mudhog" or a DA just to scratch up the surface. After that I suggest using duct tape and taping two layers around all the edges and about 1 inch in from the edge. This will keep the stripper from getting beyond the edges to the underside where you don't want it and keep a cleaner edge. After the surface is stripped use water from a hose to neutralized the stripper. After you dry it, then remove the duct tape and sand the edges of the left over paint.
