Default Auto painting questions

First, what do I need for blasting?

I've found guns like these, but they say for 'spot' rust removal. Can I use them on the whole body? Is there a better alternative? ...

If these are fine, am I probably OK to go with this off brand?

Next, HVLP guns... I suspect I need more than one, because of primer paint and clearcoat. Do I need three of them, such as in this kit? And is this kit any good?

(Note, I already have a compressor to use.)

Anything else I should take into account? Thanks.

that sand blaster will break within 10 minutes. All of the sand channels through a plastic passage in the gun and any real pressure will break it. I literally got 10 minutes out of one. Also, your car should NOT be sandblasted as prep. You need to sand it.

As far as those guns, no, don't bother. You will need a 1.7 tip for your primer surfacer, and a 1.3 or so for the basecoat. If it's a good enough gun, you MIGHT get away with clear through the same gun, but probably not. You would want a 1.4 tip or so to get the clear to lay down right. You will need to get a Satajet or Inest Iwata gun or something similar. Finally, your compressor needs to provide a good constant pressure. Just good pressure is not enough. Spray equipment takes lots of air, and any inconsistancy will show in your paintjob.

That blast gun is only good for small area's. Your better of finding a experianced pro with good equipment to do it. I have a decent pressure style blaster and still try to avoid doing it. It's real messy.
This is the paint gun you want http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DeVIL...motiveQ5fTools
I just got one and it's the best gun I've ever used by far.

$300 for one gun? Nevermind then, gents. Guess I'm not painting my car.

Thanks.

You can buy cheap ones and they really don't work to bad. Just no where near what that gun does. $300 is not that expensive for a gun. Good quality paint will cost you more.

As for the blaster take a look at this
http://www.harborfreight.com/air-too...gun-95793.html

Now that you know that is a piece of sh*t, you shouldn't be blasting off you paint. You should be sanding it. It sucks (trust me, I know) but it's what REALLY needs to be done.

As for the gun, check out Harbor Frieght. I bought both my primer and base/clear gun from them and they are CHEAP!!! And if you think you can't get good results from those guns, why don't you glance at my thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/paint-bod...otsa-pics.html

^check out the guns he suggest he had good results, you don't need to spend big $ on guns unless you paint for a living or do it often, I've got over $2,000 in guns I use but I paint 25-40 cars a week so I have to have guns that spray good n are reliable, but for useing a few times cheaper guns are fine, more so for solid colors if it's metallic paint it could be diff.

What kind of compressor did you use? I have a 26 gallon one from harbor freight that has a hard time just keeping up with air tools.

Don't bother with the sandblaster. A good one will have a ceramic tip, sand eats up the cheap ones better than they eat up rust.
I just bought a devilbiss finishline 1.3 tip from tcp global for like $140. Made in tiawan piece but it lays clear good enough to buff into something decent. If your just doing the one paint job you can probably base and clear with the same gun, you better get it squeaky clean though.
You can spray primer out of that harbor freight gun, but you might as well just drink it and **** it on there, it'll be just as smooth. Paint and body isn't too difficult but if you have no experience and no tools, it can turn into an expensive f'ed up mess real quick. So practice first on your buddys car.
