Default Thinking of removing passenger floor hump

I tried to search on here and didnt find much. Im trying to figure out the best was to remove the passenger floor hump that is so annoying for people in that seat. I tried the simple approach of just beating it with a 5lb sludge but that didnt do much and is taking way to long. Its very hard to swing a large hammer without hitting the dash.

My idea is to remove the carper and cut the hump out then reweld a new piece of flat stock back over the hole. Obviously it wont be a professional job in my garage but definatly better than just using jb weld to hold a street sign in.

Anyone attempted this or completed it?

Let me know as I want to get this knocked out soon.

there are threads about this. granted they are probably old by now. but they ended up cutting and welding a new piece in. just make sure its equal strength and wont rust or come un-welded over time.
