You can, but I wouldn't recommend it.

The vinyl will eventually be faded by the sun, then instead of peeling it off and replacing it, you're stuck with it because you cleared over it.

It'll be fine without it. My car has all sorts of decals, they tend to last about 5 years of being stored outside in all weather and driven daily.

In the past, at the shop we have cleared over bedside decals with no trouble at all. I would disagree about the decal fading over time...todays clears protect very well. It is true about being screwed when or if the time arrives that you want the decal off. Personnal choice in my opinion.

I went ahead and applied the decals before I dropped the stuff off to be cleared. I didn't want the stickers to peel off over time. If I do want to change the look ever I have an extra panel.

You will be fine clearing over vinyl decals just make sure your first coat is sprayed thin and tacks good so the reducer wont lift the vinyl. Have decals cleared going on 5 years no problems

the painter my shop uses says he doesnt recomend it unless the car is out kept mostly out of the elements. he told us that he has seen cars that sit in the sun have the clear crack over 5-10 years.

I was wondering the same thing. So I guess I'll clear the panel first and then apply the decals.

When I did my rear filler decal, I sprayed some clear over it. I just hate corners coming up/ect when washing. I'm going to redo it this year however and try to paint the design on.

I got the negative emblems, decals and then my painter just painted them on. It looks a lot better if you have access to get the negative made.

I'd imagine if its done right it should hold up just fine. When i was changing up the looks of my 03 GSXR600 when i had it i was disappointed to see that the patterns on the tank were cleared over vinyl. The vinyl looked like normal paint and were in excellent condition especially for a bike being appx 8 years old. I'm positive the previous owners of that bike didnt garage it 24/7. Definitely makes it a pain in the a$$ if you want to change the look of the vehicle though, i can attest to that.

Last summer when I had my car painted and stripes exc. put on, I had the same question. I know the guy painting the car and he said that he didn't recommend it, saying that unless they are designed for it (bike decals) that it is just another layer between the color and clear. Say the decal bubbles, with the clear over top there is no way to fix or repair the problem. Needless to say I had the clear sprayed then the decals put on. And really for how.cheap you can get stripes or whatnot why wouldn't you? Not worth repainting I think.
