Clear Coating Metalic

Clear Coating Metalic So I've painted my ls6 black metal metalic..after 4 coats it looked perfect. Shiny and the metalic shine (sparkle) is just where I wanted it.. After 3 very light coats of clear, it took away the metalic look. It looked kinda like gloss black/grey, no metalic affect anymore. So I sanded the clear and applied 2 more coats, looks perfect again...What to do? I can't just leave it bare with no clearcoat can I? Or could I then wax it to protect the paint? What do you think?

I've used it before as well after about a year to two years the color started fading like crazy, i could even pull the color back by buffing it, it just cheap paint($20 a quart) but hey for each their own
