Default Think I am going with enamel

This s the original hood on my 97 Formula. I have been using it as a practice hood to see how I would want to paint the complete car.

I tried the base/clear on it and then the acrylic enamel with the catylist hardener.

Yes I know it has a little trash and a little orange peal but Sunday after curing I plan to wet sand and buff. I think I will be happy with this on the whole car. It's really not that hard to do.

Use urethane enamel if you're gonna use single stage.

Too dry? Do you mean more reducer? It seemed to flow out pretty well. It was tack free in a couple hours. I went ahead and sprayed the jambs, Turned out pretty well. This isn't a high dollar queen just a good driver.

He means you aren't putting enough paint on. The more paint you apply in a single coat the wetter, flatter, and slicker it will look.

I second this The cheaper enamels kinda like tractor paint & will look like **** in a few years. If your clear is running with the base/clear add a lil color in the clear so you can see it better Hope this helps & maybe Im not too late lol

No clear just single stage. I will see what can be done on the heaver paint applications without runs. This hood has 4 coats on it.

Thanks.

Completed the RA hood. Three coats last two very wet. I put 16oz of paint on this hood not including reducer. I am happy with it. Excuse the foggy pics there was still a little paint in the air.

I guess you can wetsand and buff enamel. Turned out pretty good except it takes me about 2 hours a panel to do.

Lookin good. 2 hours for a panel correctly color sanded & buffed is not that much time. I used nason single stage on my tailgate & bedcover a few years ago. Can't tell a whole lot of difference when clean from the chroma base clear next to it. Single stage is a little blacker, especially at night, but does not stay as clean as bc/cc. On my front end last spring ,I used high solids clearcoat on top of the single stage.
Everybody has their methods & preferences on colorsanding/buffing ,last few years I,ve been starting out with meguiars diamond cut, which breaks down into a glazing compound.
