Default How to remove rear window/tint???

Hey guys,

I've tried searching for this and can't find any good answers...plus the crappy search function is a POS. I'm repainting my entire car and I want to remove the rear window to paint it the right way. How did you remove your rear window and what tool did you use? Can I use the cable method with the steel cable?

Also, the window is cover with old purplish tint and I would like to remove it before I reinstall my window. Any suggestions on what I can put on there to help the told tint come off easier? Or is a blade, a heat gun and a lot of patiece my best option?

Thanks

The best way to remove old tint is to get a steamer and a blade. I saw this on youtube and it works really well. I hope this helps.

Here ya go, it will literally fall off, effortlessly. No razor scraping needed. And my tint was over a decade old and like cement:

just use a good hair dryer... thats what i did, take a small blade and heat up the edge, once its hot enought you will be able to pick the edge up with the blade and keep working the heat back and forth slowly pulling the tint off.... when i say slowly it should only take about 5 minutes, just dont get an edge of it and try pulling the whole thing off right away or it will leave glue on the window... thats how i do it

Industrial heat gun did nothing for mine. I mean nothing.

It works on tint that isn't very old I guess or tint that somehow doesn't get hard like cement. I broke a razor I mine trying to get it off, the razor wouldn't remove any at all.

Granted, mine was 11 years old......but I have no idea how it got so hard and dry. I almost bought a new back glass till I tried the aircraft paint remover.

2lb hammer should get it out.

4 Razors and windex is the only way mine would come off. No heat gun, no bullshit remover. Cramped hands and a razor.

I'm not trying to damage the window. I want to remove it undamaged.

I was in a rush and just ran through your previous post. I didn't get that till right now. opps

I can't swap hatches because the reason for me removing my window is to properly paint the match. I'm doing a complete color change over. I'm bringing this car back to life...hopefully.

no reason to pull the window out a good window guy can remove the window moulding and put a new one on after paint.
