Default Rocker Panel Repair help!

I sort of had an accident with my 02 Z. I scratched and dented the driver side rocker panel. They seem pretty cheap for a new one. My question is how hard is it to remove the outer rocker panel and replace it with a new one.

I haven't actually replaced one on an f body but I've done quite a few on other makes and repaired quite a few too. Just from looking at your pics, it doesn't look too bad. I would probably have it repaired over replacing it. There would be a fair number of spot welds holding it on. It may have to be spliced in at the a pillar. The door and fender should really come off. And I'm not sure how it joins where it meets the front of the rear quarter panel. When a panel is replaced like that, it is more likely to rust on the inside where the new welds are, so it should also be sprayed with oil or wax oil on the inside.

thanks for your reply, the only problem about getting it repaired. They want $1400, when you scan by new for $50 and the paint for like $40.

You could fix that pretty easy. I bet it would still be $1400 to have a new one put in and painted anyway.

I fixed mine a while back and it was smashed pretty good

To replace the rocker you have to take part of the quarter panel loose because the rocker panel runs behind the quarter.

A 30 minute fix would be to fill it full of body filler and sand it down. Is that a hack fix? Not nessicarily, depending on how deep it is.

The "better" way is to pull it out then put a skim coat of body filler on it.

IMO I would do that before I would go through all the hassle of replacing the whole rocker. To do that you have to pull the door off, drill the spot welds out, mess the with quarter panel. That's a lot of a damn work for a part of the car you are really never going to see.

I replaced part of the rocker on a 94 Formual I painted last year. Somehow the rocker got caved in pretty bad. Luckily it didn't go under the quarter panel.

Here are some pics.

gonna take a little longer than 30 mins. I'm in the middle of replacing my DS rocker right now. It's a pain in the arss. Liljayv10 has the right idea though. cut that bitch at the quarter. I fucked up and pulled the whole thing off. It makes things alot harder that way.
