Default Help drunk hit my mint 1999 z28

So long story short what's every kids dream when they are 16 yep that right a1999 z28. So over the years I have been building her up and to be honest have about 25k in upgrades and car makes 580 hp 620 to at the wheels. Well dad likes to take the car out on Sunday drives when I am out of town. Which is great we both love the car. So he is driving down the road and a drunk runs into the back end of the car and he spins out and the rest is history. I am in aa dilemma insurance only gave me 6 k to fix it. I am looking for a good body shop to help me replace the rear clip. I have removed all parts and just need the new back end replaced. Got one estimate of 16 k. That hurts. Any one that will do the rear clip swap AMS give me a fair price. I hate to see my baby die and to make matters worse my father is blaming him self even thought it aw not his fault and I hate that. Please any help will be greatly appreciated. I was hoping the car would be in my life for ever and now it's not looking good.

i was in the same situation with my 02 SOM SS. there comes a time when you have to really think if you want it fixed or not. structural damage is not a place where you want to sacrifice quality. after seeing my back seat pushed all the way into my seat i can tell you the they are designed to crumple like that. you thought about taking the 6k and getting a roller and swapping everything over? would still be a great father/son project.

anyway, post some pics for an expert to chime in and see what they can do. they will also need to know where you are.

So his insurance company cut you a check? Or just had an estimate written by one of their field agents? If they did cut you a check, did you cash it already? Where are you located?

Pictures would help, but personally I would have left the car intact and simply had it delivered to a shop. Lots of supplements will pop up during the repairs and a shop that is approved by the other driver's insurance would be able to submit all of them into insurance with no problems.

I've heard that if you can produce receipts of parts/work that you have invested into the car it is harder for the insurance company to cut you a check that won't cover their cost as well as the cost of the car. I'm making sure to keep a record of all purchases for my car so that I can prove the car should be worth more than what they say it is just in case.

Did it total? This is where you really need to get agreed value insurance. If you put that much into the car and dont have it you are kind of hosed. Best bet is to buy it back and swap your parts to roller.

if they gave you 6k be glad it didnt total it out... dont ask for more or they will total it out and you will have a slavage title.. try looking for a really good shape LSx car and swap everything over. then youll end up with an extra LSx engine for project use.

forgot to add that earlier. i have agreed value on my car. they just asked if i had receipts for everything and asked how much coverage i wanted. they would not cover the total cost of all parts but they got really close.

Default was in the same situation but it was the front end.

Yea i was pretty much in the same boat as you but it was my front end. I bought all the replacement parts i needed of LS1tech and Ebay all oem parts at that and i only spent 1200 bucks for everything and my insurance company gave me a check of 6700.00 dollars.
